The Evolving Wild contract projections for Skinner was 8 years at 8.5 and for Eberle at 5 years was 5.75. Both seem to have signed for around their value.

Eberle’s was considerably higher than that.

Vanek's contract started in the 07-08 season and was in fact the 3rd highest forward cap hit in the league. However, he had only played 2 NHL seasons at that point, was just 24 years old, and was coming off of a 84 point season.

That's a far cry from a 9 year NHL vet, 27 years old, coming off of a 63 point season.

He had a hot start last year scoring goals but really cooled down in the 2nd half of the season.

Look at all the other players in the league making like 8.5-9.5M. They are all basically either star players, or centers, or both. Skinner is neither.

At least he's one of the best at scoring goals. Combine that with the time some of those contracts were signed and all the upcoming contracts in the near future, not too much of an overpayment.
