Like i've mentioned few times here, not a fan what i've seen from OEL since last year. Just looks like a player who has lost a lot of games, even if the talent and ability is still there. Could use a fresh start.

From the Coyotes POV, committing to a player like him is a big deal. If you're ever going to trade him, it has to be soon (within a year). And who knows, maybe OEL doesn't even planning on staying, he's still UFA after all and when the summer of 19 gets closer the idea of signing somewhere else can always get more tempting as it's his only chance to go sign on his terms when he's still in his prime.

If Arizona gets Dahlin, that would make a kings ransom for OEL a no-brainer IMO. They still have Hammer to mentor Dahlin.

yeah I just briefly looked through some trade lists and can't find any defenseman of OEL's current quality, since Pronger. He was first moved for Lupul/Smid/1st rounder/conditional 1st rounder/2nd rounder, and then for Lupul/Sbisa/2 1sts. Smid was the 9th overall pick in 04, and Sbisa 19th overall in 08. So, if you consider them to be roughly at the same place in their careers (obviously up for debate, but the closest precedent), it'd be OEL for a roster player + legitimate prospect + 2 1st round picks.

I don't think OEL for 1.5 years is worth Marner+. Marner is still on his ELC.

The best I see Leafs doing is Kapanen, Liljegren, 1st rounder, conditional 1st and a contract dump if needed to balance the cap. Liljegren is close to playing in the NHL and doing really well on the Marlies.
