We are going to be a cellar team this season. It's not even a maybe...we are so far behind 5 or 6 teams in our own division it's not even worth having the conversation.

I figured that was your opinion, so in that context what you're saying makes sense. But understand it would also mean an even worse record.

There's the politics involved of putting a team on the ice that while poor, hopefully isnt a complete abomination. STH need to renew, advertisers need to buy-in, etc....

Even if they are bad the next two years in a worst-case you can flip Boyle at next year's deadline for a decent pick :P

Well, the Devils are going to be bad, I agree with Jim there, but CAN you flip Boyle for a "decent" pick at the deadline?

I'm skeptical you could do any better than a 3rd, and that's assuming anyone wants him.

He was just flipped for a trash player and a 2nd.

Boyle is the exact type of player some teams are looking for at the deadline. He could also play out the contract and be an effective player for us.

We also had to thrown some coin around to get to the cap floor, let's not forget about that aspect as well.

Yep, without Shattenkirk or Boyle I think we would still need to do this. The RFAs we have left aren't enough.

There's more signings to come.

He was just flipped for a trash player and a 2nd.

And then proceeded to put up 0 goals and 3 points in 21 games.

I doubt Boyle gets traded for a 2nd rounder again, barring a big rebound season with the Devils.

Boyle's also played a ridiculous amount of playoff games the last several years dating back to the 2011-12 season for the Rangers.

He has a lot of experience on competitive teams which will be nice for a young team

Horrendous, I hate this guy. He may be one of the tallest and biggest players in the league but he plays like an absolute *****.

The signing is fine, but I feel like he's gonna be overused and will only score 10 or 12 points because of it. And I can already see Zacha having to play with him.

Hopefully this means Josefson is finished here.

It all depends on the situation of the flipping.

If its a contender who is tight to the cap and we have to take some salary back, it drives the return up. Its just impossible to say today what he brings back since he hasnt suited up yet. Most recently he returned a 2nd.

Eh.

Only way he gets overused is if the kids aren't ready and if that's the case, we would've been playing whatever ****** veteran we got to fill this role later on.

Rather see Boyle here then dumpster dive in September for a guy like Kennedy.

I don't see how he won't be glued to the 4th line if Nico is kept at C. We have Zajac, Henrique, Nico, potentially Zacha...I don't see how he'd be getting more than 4th line minutes.

4th line minutes plus PK time

Can also see him getting PP time on the basis that he just parks his ass in front of the goalie

If he is played sparingly, this should be fine. Very meh about this signing. Maybe the leadership will help.

Meh. Wish we would actually sign someone of significance instead of fourth line forwards and seventh defensemen...At least he has playoff experience, not that we seem on track to get there this year unless we actually improve our defense. Big shrug from me on this move. Guess he might be better than DSP and burned out Cammy. :dunno:

^ Didn't you read what she said?

She wants the Devils to sign "someone of significance"!

Though I think that name won't fit on the back of the jersey. :sarcasm:

Like not these interchangeable parts we sign every year. How much of an upgrade is he really over Cammy and DSP. I will wait with bated breath to find out. Another exciting year as a Devils fan in the making, to be sure.

he is a 4th line center whereas those guys are not.

they two have literally nothing to do with each other
