Brind'Amour is such an absurd option that it honestly feels like a low-hanging guess when he gets brought up. "May be a potential internal candidate" can be translated as "here's a guy whose job title is Assistant Coach, let's just go with him".

Vellucci almost HAS to be either the next GM or the next coach. If not, he's going to be looking elsewhere as well. It would be a pretty big slap at his career path to not be selected for either of the two empty spots that he would obviously be interested in.

But at the end of the day... it's mid April. More coaches and GMs will be fired before we get to the draft. I expect we won't see these positions filled before mid June.

I would think the GM will be sooner than Mid-June. The draft is mid-late June so I wouldn't want the GM coming in cold a week before the draft, particularly because teams start talking to each other about trades, moves, etc.. before that. I get that the scouts do the legwork on the draft, but I would think the GM would be on board with enough time to be comfortable with what is being done there and to prepare for trades and free agency at the end of June / beginning of July.

I just hope we go out of the organization for both GM and HC, but I fear that isn't going to be the case. There is a clear losing culture within this hockey club, some new faces are needed to be added.

I say we bring in Mike Keenan (GM) and John Tortorella (HC) to kick some ass and win some hockey games.

Not that it never happens in sports, but you don't usually go head coach first. It's interesting that there may be candidates emerging and they mentioned they'd start the process immediately, without a new GM. Of course, Tippett as mentioned has some experience in both capacities. Maybe he'd be a good fit in the hive.

Depending on what TD is trying to build here (which is the big unanswered question behind everything we've been seeing) it may be that he would go ahead and move on a coach like Tippett if he felt that he was the right man for the job. The weirdness around the GM position suggests to me that TD isn't looking for someone who comes in and hand-picks everything like a traditional GM, but rather someone who coordinates a bunch of other staff and manages assets like a business executive. It's possible, though still maybe unlikely, that TD would run both searches in parallel rather than one after the other.

This seems like the best place to ask for opinions on Bill Peters. It's looking like he's gonna be the Flames new coach so I'd like to hear what Carolina fans have to say about him. Carolina was a pretty good possession team under him and Gulutzan coached a system that emphasized shot attempts, so it seems obvious that Flames management corsi and whatnot. Carolina's record under him isn't all that inspiring, but do you guys think he was an alright coach anyways? I'd appreciate any replies I can get:allears:

I think you can "start the process" without having a GM in place. And by start the process, I mean do the background work on which guys are available, who might be a good fit for the personnel we have, create a list of candidates with pros/cons, ask other teams for permission to talk to them, etc... and then wait for the GM to be hired to do the interviews and make the hire.

I agree with you though, it doesn't make sense to hire a coach before the GM. I'll be a bit surprised if that happens.

That's true, we don't have any clue how far they'll go into the process they start, or even what the process will be under Dundon.

Is there any chance they are trying to lure Tippet to be a coach/GM (player moves only)? He was operating in a similar capacity in Arizona towards the end if I remember correctly.

Tippett as coach can work.

Tippett with an official role in personnel decisions? Run for your lives. Virtually every deal that had his fingerprints on it here, save for Goligoski, blew up spectacularly.
