Wouldn't all GMs have the green light to make moves that try and improve the team, or is he on thin ice with the owners and they have taken his power away?

Frickin embarrassment……. Benning is such a joke they gms will phone about his captain. This shit will never happen when Gillis or Burke was the gm. It’s an insult to think Mike Gillis or Burke will consider trading the captain.

what a joke our team has become.

Like legit, what needs to change player wise in Vancouver?
I would say change the coach first before you mess around with the roster even more. We know how tgat worked when Benning got smart and let Tanev go just to trade for schmidt and then trade him the very next year.

I think he cant do anything without owners approval and it is why Green is still coaching. They want to hire the new GM so he can hire the new coach. It makes the most sense. As far as am concerned, Benning had the kiss of death when owners met up with him recently.

So many rumours not enough actually facts.
True but am pretty sure any other GM would have fired Green 5 games ago including Benning if he still had the "green light" to do anything. The writing is on the wall for Benning and his 8 year tenure with the team. Just a matter of time before he gets the boot.

They should change the coach before they change key players on this roster to clean the slate if they feel like there is some bad juju. At the very least they should consider hiring a currently unemployed coach or two with lots of experience like Tortorella or Joe Quennville etc. to provide consultation on what they see on the ice to determine their direction. They could use it as an interview process to hire their next coach as well.

Torts has already probably seen enough of this ownership group.
Joel Quenneville will not go to a market with as much scrutiny as Vancouver after he resigned in Florida for being complicit in the Beach stuff.

Murica
Miller seems cut from the Blake Wheeler cloth. I don't think many of today's kinder, gentler athletes fare well under that kind of withering glare.
