Glad to see Chabot getting some production -- hope it raises his confidence. How's he looking defensively?

Why are they playing two goaltenders with no future in the organization and letting Hogberg rot in the pressbox?

Why did they feel compelled to keep Formenton on the opening night roster, only to have him as a healthy scratch one game and play 5:00 minutes the next?

From a player development standpoint, some of the decisions they've made have been puzzling, to put it mildly.

It's to give him a taste. They aren't going to ruin him. He'll be sent back today.

That strategy sure did ruin Chabot's development.

I don't think they planned on playing formenton 5 mins.

So many power plays in that game, and penalty kills which formenton doesn't play on. On top of that his line mates play on the kill so it reduces his potential TOI further.

I agree, Before the game, Boucher said they wanted to play Formenton a lot at even strength, so 4 1st period PP and a 0-0 score probably didn't help his icetime at all.

The Senators are giving him a brief intro to the NHL pro game to make him aware of his current abilities versus pros. This will help him learn what he needs to work on in junior which will occur before he exceeds 9 games.

I agree with Coxmix & would only add that keeping him around the team is a reward for his hard work during training camp & an indicator to the other prospects of what can happen if you work hard. I expect that he should be sent back soon with a fact sheet on exactly what he needs to work on this season to be even more prepared for next season. What he really needs is to put on about 20 lbs of muscle for next yr.

Practicing against NHL competition and training, eating like a pro are all good learning opportunities.

Seeing what NHL travel is like and getting a few weeks of NHL pay can also be very motivating.

He is not being harmed in any way right now and I bet he learned a lot in those 5 minutes too.

He had a pass picked off that let to a cycle in our end and he had guys jump on him before he could make a pass or get to puck...in 5 minutes he received a crash course about the speed and intensity of regular season play.

Loved his tenacity.

I am always surprised to see that some people still don't understand what teams are achieving by doing that. All teams do it A LOT nowadays

If a prospect is given an early taste in the NHL it is because they have future plans for him and think he'll be a player. They want to let him know what kind of competition it is at this level. Playing real games is something but practicing with pros is where you really develop your game. Daniel Briere was talking about that last week, Forsberg was the player with the puck on his stick the most per game in the early 00's. About 82 seconds per game. Briere had it from 50 to 70 seconds, which was among the highest in the league. But in practice, you have it a lot more.

Because Randy Lee. Dude has no business being the GM of a fantasy league team, let alone one in professional hockey.

The reason you have an AHL team is to help develop young players so they can one day make a difference for the parent club. Hogberg-Driedger should be the tandem for Belleville, not Taylor-Hammond.

Yeah. Lee shouldn't be anywhere near a management role. He should go back to being an athletic therapist.

Hogberg should be playing half the games this year. If this isn't the case, the organization is not helping his development in any way.

Any word on the deal they have with the Canadiens to use Brampton as an ECHL affiliate. Diedger was apparently injured to start the year. Sens will have to fix this situation sooner than later.

There's another reason to have an AHL team - to have players who can step in when injuries dictate. If the Senators feel neither Hogberg or Driedger are ready to play in the NHL, it makes sense to have an experienced guy who can come up. I'm guessing they probably figured Hammond wouldn't factor in much this season, either due to injury or a trade.

Danny Taylor is actually a great signing. He is the only reason the B Sens might compete this season. KK is not a good coach IMO and the veterans players they hired (Sexton, Reinhart, Randell, etc) are average... Why did they let Varone and Akeson go?

Hammond shouldn't be here anymore, he serves no purpose.

How's Chlapik looking so far?

He's always come across as a very high iq and cerebral player and it seemed like he put in major work on his skating as well.

From what I've heard I gather he has been one of the better forwards so far.
