I disagree. Goodrow being as bad as he is even at 50% will need assets attached or salary going back to get it done. Goodrow is not an NHL caliber player and is locked in for three more years. Even at 50%, you're asking a team to be on the hook for 5.625 mil in money for him. They'll need to attach something or take salary back to get that sort of deal done.

To start this season he was hit in the face with a shot which knocked out teeth and was rumored to dislocate some things inside his mouth. He had to wear the bubble shield for two months and likely was not eating solid foods during that time. He played through that injury, albeit poorly, because the team needed him Kakko and Chytil out already.

None of this is to say that he isn't overpaid, but there is some nuance to his fall off a cliff this year in terms of production up to this point. It should also be noted that he has been playing center which, honestly, is not his best position. He should be playing wing and helping on faceoffs at times. It allows him to get up the ice and get to the net more than when he is the defensively responsible player on the line.

I could see a team adding him this off-season @ $1.8m (50% retained). That's 3 years left @ $1.8m for a guy who had 33 points in 79 games followed by 31 points in 82 games in the last 2 years for a team that was in playoff contention, has (2) Stanley Cups on his resume and can play wing or center as needed.

Hell, Chicago paid $4m on the open market for Foligno and Perry. A rebuilding team, say like the Sharks, who likely will have some problems attracting UFA's and could use a veteran forward would probably be good bringing him back at that salary to help guide some of their young players.

Sharks have enough vets as it is. They're not going to take on a contract like Goodrow's with very little chance of turning around and getting value out of him for nothing. Not unless they're paid for it.

Chicago might be the only team willing to take Goodrow but it would cost more then Kakko.

How about goodrow kakko 2026 1st for tyler Johnson 50% retained.
How about we just buy Goodrow out? In what universe is that a fair deal for NYR when the buyout cap isn't nearly as bad as you think, and the organization has cash for toilet paper.

What's his actual worth? I don't know. Maybe negative. Maybe not nearly as negative as some think with retention. He had a broken foot, then spit parts of his jaw out after being hit in the face. Is he worth 3.6? No. Is he better than he's been this season? Probably.

well if you trade him now before the TDL you can use the cap space to add a player. 2nd when you buy someone out it does save money on the cap by it only being 2/3 and its paid out over the double amount of time. it really would only be bad n the 3rd year when its a 3.5 mil dead cap hit.

With Chytil out, I don't see the organization needing to get rid of Goodrow before the deadline. I doubt he goes anywhere this season. Any trades being talked about here are most likely after the season ends unless it's a very big fish, or deadline player with term and cap needs to go.
