Played Odyssey first and loved it logging over 100+ hours into it. Installed this one and thought it was okay, but definitely a significant step back, not to mention I get a lot of random crashes on PC, so I uninstalled it and wondering if Origins might be more worth it instead.

I loved Odyssey and thought Valhalla was above average. Origins is average for me.

Origins is definitely worth a playthrough, Bylak is up there with Ezio as the best protagonist in the series for me and the Eygpt map isn't as big or as bloated as the other two games. There's no ship warfare and there's tons of tombs to loot, oh, and the Curse of the Gods DLC might be the best add on in gaming, Set is a beautiful area.

Origins is probably one of my favorites, I really loved it.

Origins
Valhalla
Odyssey

That's how I would rank the open world ones.

Same for me, the lead characters in Odyssey drag it down (the male VO is atrocious), the map is full of bloat and the ship battles aren't as good as Black Flag.

I'm thinking about getting Origins for Xbox just to play it again lol having played it previously on PS4

I enjoyed Origins, Odyssey and Valhalla all equally. I thought each game had its own charm and annoyances. Although I will say I've recently been rewatching an AC4 playthrough and I can't help but feel nostalgic for that kind of era. Feels like the series has sort of lost its essence even if I still enjoy the new games.

I enjoyed Odyssey and Origins more, but I'm also a fan of those time periods more than I am of Valhalla's. Plus, who doesn't enjoy Spartan kicking people from high places?

It was kinda lame you couldn’t do it on some people.

I got this in a black friday bogo for the PS5. I couldn't get past the opening combat sequence. I hear it's a beautiful game with not very good game mechanics. I will probably gradually get through a chunk of it and then never finish it

Stick with it. The intro is just teaching mechanics. It’s a MASSIVE and fun game.

Its a fun game if you like doing the same 3 quests for 80 hours.

Dolemite's tastes are impeccably bad. Rags on Halo for having shitty combat but will praise cookie cutter nonsense like Assassin's Creed and Far Cry.

The difference being:

- I play the games
- You don’t own or play any of the games and base your options on other peoples shitty reviews/opinions.

On the contrary, I own both. Got Valhalla with my Series X and bought far cry on sale. One is laughably repetitive to the point the story beats/quests repeat endlessly for every region in England. Pathetic even by Ubisoft standards. And then the other adds a bunch of RPG lite garbage that has no place in the series. But obviously you're easily fooled by all the flashy explosive weapons they added and mutter to yourself "haha supremo go brrrrr" because you're incapable of actual taste.

But keep deluding yourself into believing I just parrot what all the reviewers say.

OK seriously though, is it worth sticking with this game? I got a couple of hours into gameplay and while the cutscenes are impressive, the actual gameplay is just kind of dull. Does it get much better?

What I don't want to do is spend weeks/months grinding and expecting some big payoff that never comes.

What you see is what you get.

I loved the game personally, I don't get the hate. My only negative would be that it is very large and some mission are very similar but the combat, story and norse mythology elements were great.

Being an history buff myself does help appreciate the game more.

It kinda depends on your taste. I get the hate for AC, but I thought Odyssey was fantastic. I thought Valhalla was a step back, but personally I found it enjoyable. I think the storyline is interesting and there were some really cool parts of the game.

The game definitely drags in parts, though. I think it depends if you have the patience for some of the repetitiveness.

Once you get to England in Valhalla the story kicks into high gear, especially when you have the chance to go to Ireland (Level 55 and up). Man that's some great storytelling.

What story lmao. Its the same god damn territorial conquest arc played out 45 times over.

Get some taste.
I will not spoil but Asgard/Jotunheim, King Alfred.
All the historical cities like Lunden.
As I said, I enjoy historical event and norse mythology so for me it was amazing.

You get some cool abilities but the combat really doesn’t change much. The story gets pretty cool but I feel like it could’ve been better as well. Still I enjoyed my time with the game.

Coming in from Odyssey I was very disappointed with this game at first, so I stopped playing it very early on and forgot about it until I watched Valhalla on Netflix, which gave me the itch to try this game again. This time around I stuck through and the truth is, the game get's really good when you get to England and beyond. Right now I feel like this one is my far AC game followed by Odyssey.
