Their first choice was to stay at Gila River Arena until their new arena was built. Gila River refused to start a new lease with the Coyotes because of their missed rent payment issues.

Going to Mullet was not the plan.
Not sure that is accurate.

It was known the Coyotes were looking to build a new arena. Glendale did not want to lose the main tennant and wanted a (memory serves) a 40 year lease to stay. Coyotes balked. Coyotes got evicted.

Not saying Muerrelo wan't a turd in the negotiations but it was not as simple as not paying rent.

Seems like every Coyote post turns into a arena discussion.

But as far as roster improvements, I think we need a middle 6 Center on a short contract(Cooley's spot) and a RD, maybe a RW.

Keller/Hayton/Schmaltz
Crouse/XXXX/Guenther
Maccelli/Mcbain/XXXX
Obrien/Boyd/Fisher

Kuznetzov and Boeser seem like decent fits

There’s a difference between abandoning the rebuild and looking to make some gradual improvements. The Coyotes have reached a saturation point with 2nd and 3rd round picks.

This is simply an acknowledgement of the core players and the fact that the system isn’t going to benefit greatly from yet more prospects.
Exactly. Another step in a rebuild.

Good. But if this was the plan, then why trade Chychrun for less than he's worth? I get he wanted out, but mostly because they were rebuilding.

He was under contract. They should have kept him if they wanted to start winning.
Armstrong approached Chych and asked if he wanted out. Dumb move as Chych took him up on his offer.

Like it or not, he has earned a reputation as a cheapskate owner, and that comes at a cost. They can't even draft talent with any assurance that their new players won't demand out of the organization.
Who told you this or where did you read it?

They will end up trading their best guys for old injured guys and picks soon

It's the same thing every year.

The "rebuild" will continue on

Would they be interested in Sean Durzi?

.5ppg 4-6 RHD Dman who can QB PP2. Cheap contract.

Could be had for a 2nd + 3rd?
Not a totally crazy idea, but the acquisition cost seems a little high.

NYR '26 2nd + EDM '23 3rd for Durzi

Later 3rd in this draft and the 2nd is way off in the future.

27 Goals is worth more than a second
Bjorkstrand put up 28 goals (57 points) and went for a 3rd +4th last offseason.

Pacioretty (along with Coughlin) went for future considerations last summer because of cap crunch. MaxPac had just put up 37 points in 39 games.

I think the Coyotes are looking for a deal like that. It sounded like the Bruins are in a cap crunch.

If there's someone who would give up more than a 2nd for 1 year of DeBrusk, so be it.

Buddy, they got evicted from Glendale because he wouldn’t pay the rent.

Lmao moving to Mullet wasn’t by choice.

There ain’t no new arena. No shovels in the ground.
they got evicted because they refused to sign a 15 year lease. Source Craig Morgan and PHNX.

Glendale did a lot of work to try to tarnish the reputation of Muerelo and some of it probably was deserved. That being said the facts are the facts. Glendale wanted a long-term lease. Coyotes did not. Glendale did not want another arena/entertainment to compete against for acts and went about trying to sabotage their efforts.

Glendale wanted a long term lease with penalties. Not having to clean up the toxic landfill means that the arena will be built earlier than previously anticipated. 2 of the sites they are currently looking at are on the Salt River Indian Reservation, so there doesn't have to be a public vote.
Also the Coyotes were talking with ASU prior to them building Mullet.

Evicted? They agreed not to sign a new lease as the city wanted a long term lease and penalties if they left early. The Coyotes were willing to stay until they built a new arena, but glendale wanted to force their hand. Meanwhile the Coyotes were talking with ASU before Mullet arena was built.
These are incredible revisionist spins to "akshually the Coyotes wanted to leave Glendale and play at a 4600 seat arena without dressing rooms all along!"

The fact the team was evicted is bad enough. How many pro franchises have ever been kicked out of their arena for non-payment of rent?
Wait, what?!?!
They missed rent payments at Gila. Yeah, no wonder Gila wanted an iron-clad lease with penalties for missed payments in order to stay there.

This is, of course, in addition to Meruelo's history of stiffed vendor payments, missed player salaries, among other shady business practices.

Coyotes wanted a short-term lease that would allow enough time for them to construct their new arena. Glendale didn't obviously want that and evicted them as a way to try to sabotage that plan. This is all well documented by PHNX reporter Craig Morgan.

Hayes & Hall. Halls more of a LW though I think.

Edit, Nyi might be looking at moving a center. Might be a deal on one of their depth centers.

So you're unwilling or unable to answer the question? Got it.

I don't know how many times you need to be told you're wrong by people who are actually living in this situation before you say, "hmm, maybe I'm the one that needs to do a bit more research on this instead of having 100% of my opinion being formed based on headlines from sensationalist news sources or posts on an internet discussion board". It's getting weird.

These are incredible revisionist spins to "akshually the Coyotes wanted to leave Glendale and play at a 4600 seat arena without dressing rooms all along!"

Like the post you said this to, along with everybody else, has already said "they were going to stay in Glendale until a new arena was built", but you're still full steam ahead with the idea that they wanted to leave Glendale ASAP to play at Mullett, for no other reason than being too stubborn (or worse) to realize you're just wrong. And that's just one example.

I know. It's just ridiculous to say that we are not doing what we have already done. Although Shea Weber is by far the best defenseman on the roster-
all they have said is they are no longer in the taking of bad contract business. They have enough picks now and they may look to use a few of those to acquire some assets that can actually contribute. Teams that make contract mistakes will either have to buy them out or pay someone else to get out from underneath it. AZ doesn't need to apologize for leveraging cap space for assets during a period where they were operating on a shoestring budget.

JJ Moser is pretty good. Valimaki played well. D is a weakness though but it doesn't sound they are going to reach this year on a D in the 1st. We will see if it's gamesmanship or not.
