I posted it in News and Notes as well, but Mark Morris has left the Checkere to become HC at St. Lawrence University.

Well if that is what he wants to do then all the best to him, guess we gotta go coach hunting again.

See ya Mark "Tom Izzo" Morris.

Hey guys, Sabres fan coming in peace.

I graduated from St. Lawrence recently. I know Mark is a solid coach, but I was wondering what some people who watch Charlotte hockey much more than me thought of him. Did you like him?

Unfortunately I didn't watch enough of the Checkers this season to form an intelligent response to your question, but it seems to me that he did what he could with the group he had. Not sure who to blame for the 10 game no point streak or the late season collapse but sadly that kind of thing is common in this organization.

So any volunteers for the coaching job?

Isn't this about the right time for Tim Gleason and/or Chad LaRose and/or Scott Walker get back with the organization? I mean with Francis, Brindy, Wesley, Stillman, Samsonov, Whitney, Daniels, Willis (and I'm sure I'm missing a few others) all landing jobs, it seems likely one of those guys would. :sarcasm: (only partially)

Isn't Gleason like an unpaid intern right now? Wouldn't be all that surprising to see him in an actual coaching role at some level of the organization next year.

What do you guys think of Gordon Bombay as the possible head coach for the Charlotte Checkers?

From what I can find, he's spending time with his family. I remember his wife getting diagnosed with some sort of cancer during the 09 run. If I were him I'd absolutely take some time off too.

Cervical, IIRC. To my knowledge he's just been around the house. I remember reading that he felt like he hadn't really retired, pretty much going straight from playing to coaching and he wanted some of that retirement time to spend with his family. The Font of All Knowledge says he's been working for Vancouver as a player development consultant since October of 2015 but he's not listed on their website anymore, so who knows?

Just saw the news via SIHR -- John Brophy has passed away.

Brophy was on the original Charlotte Clippers team that moved from Baltimore mid-season in 1956, and later returned as an opposing super-villain coach in the 90s/00s ECHL.

For those of you who regularly watch the checkers, whats the read on Anthony Camara? Based on his numbers it seems to have picked up since joining the checkers. Is he effective away from the puck? Curious if he is worth resigning being that he was a former 2nd round pick.

EDIT:Former 3rd round pick

Briles took Baylor, a perennial basement dweller in the Big 12, to a team that came really close to making the playoffs last season. I'm down for that.
