The entire point of having a draft pick, developing him, and having his RFA rights is cost control. It's clear Burmi didn't want that. His demands were too high, see you later.

let's be honest with ourselves for a second.
some of us are treating Burmistrov as the second coming, as a huge draft gaffe.
look at that 1st round.

http://www.hockeydb.com/ihdb/draft/nhl2010e.html

Florida and the Islanders certainly didn't strike gold with their picks.
the 10, 11, 13 and 15 picks were total stinkeroos.

the only real miss was not taking Fowler.

so live and learn. we're not the only team that f'd up their high 1st round pick.

so can we stop talking about Burmistrov? he's now a persona non grata

Yea although the debate is interesting and enjoyable for some I am with GJF and HannuJ feels like with this news that the topic has run its coarse for now and we could lock this up until same time next year unless there is news to change the status. We can always update his progress with our prospects since he kind of falls back into that category now.

Either way I respect everyones right to carry on the debate I just think it is a bit circular now that Alex is back in Russia for the year.

It is a shame Burmistrov does not want to come back to the nhl.

It is definitely a big risk when you sign or draft Russians in the nhl.

Actually, no one is treating him like that. It's just people blowing it way out of proportion when all a lot of people are saying is Burmi would help solidify our 3rd line and make us a better team. How some people continue to deny this is just pure ignorance.

And honestly, when you make a top 10 pick and the guy is basically a bust at this point, it's a pretty big gaffe.

he wasn't a bust. he was a serviceable forward for 3 seasons. played almost 200 NHL games.

Brett connolly's played half that and was taken 2 picks before Burmi.
Erik Gudbrandson's played fewer games than Burmistrov. from last season: http://hfboards.mandatory.com/showthread.php?t=1382653
comparing him to Trouba, Gudbrandson's been a disappointment. taking a while for him to develop.

how about Nino Niederreiter?
http://www.lighthousehockey.com/201...erreiter-trade-cal-clutterbuck-islanders-wild
third overall. possibly a bust.

it's all relative, man.

Niederreiter was 5th overall. He is coming off his first full NHL season where he got 36 points and is on the upswing. Hard to call him a bust.

Hey all: it's a valid discussion topic. You can ignore the thread by not reading it, or click on the X to really ignore it.

Here's a thread that will hopefully have a happier ending: http://hfboards.mandatory.com/showthread.php?t=1665849

(Throws a smoke bomb on the ground, then disappears stage left ;) )

Not because I'm pissed or anything, just to question it, but: Why?

I don't see what there is left to discuss. Over like 2 months now, we're discussing his Corsi, his point production, his defensive play, his character, the possible outcomes, projections, politics, his haircut, his jersey number, the weather, taxes etc. etc.

Everything has been said at least 5 times by 5 different users and challenged again by another user. After the news that Burmi WILL NOT come back, how is this still a valid discussion topic?

The only thing that keeps it going are users that aren't around here much, coming in and questioning the same things and defending the same things over and over again. Those people can still read the thread, they will find their own opinion AND their counter opinion soon enough.
