Yeah but he also takes very few chances, plays in a D-first system. Not really surprising that his numbers would be better in that way. Plus he provides zero offense
His team playing a defensive system explains why the team allows fewer goals (not really the case this year, as they are 15th in GA/gm), but not his numbers.

Fox, Makar, and Rielly are all on the ice for about 1/3 of their respective teams' ES ice time, and are on the ice for more than 1/3 of the ES goals against. Pelech plays about 1/3 of the ES ice time on his team, and is on the ice for less than 1/4 of the ES goals against.

I just wonder why these 'spectacular' defensive players aren't showing spectacular defensive numbers: in fact, no better than Rielly, who also has comparable offensive numbers this year.

ES goals for is another example. Fox has been on for 51.8 % of his teams' ES goals, Rielly for 44.8 %, and Makar for 39.4 %. Pelech for 41.0%.

So, just talking even strength, Fox is helping his offence the most and his defence the least. Rielly is second in offence and second in defense. Makar is last in offence and third in defence. Pelech is third in offence, and a massive first in defence.
