Bettclown said bringing back the world cup of hockey is a priority. IMO we’re getting further and further away from NHL participation at this event.

(Real) World competitions are over.

NHL will never release its players and Russia will never come back.

Currently the format is a NATO Cup without NHL players.

NHL will release it's players and Russia can comeback by 2030

Pretty nice rosters. Hopefully the war will be over by 2026, and Russia + Belarus see their ban lifted.
By 2026? Definitely not 2030 is the earliest for Olympics, for WC I would say late 20's is the best bet

If and when the 2030 games take place in Salt Lake City, the NHL is guaranteed to want to be there. On the other hand, the IIHF and the IOC can use that as leverage to make them come already to Italy in 2026.

2026 is in Western Europe, where the NHL wants to market itself

Italy is a very marginal hockey market, even by European standards. And European fans don't think of the NHL when they watch national team hockey anyway. The IIHF should make it a choice between the NHL joining both tournaments (2026 and 2030) or neither. Especially not 2030 in the US and vague promises of 2034 wherever that might be.

Lafreniere has close to zero chance, Bedard has a way better chance.

Switzerland, Kazakhstan, Sweden and Austria aren't in NATO.

Finland joined only recently thanks to the 'genius' geopolitical maneuvering of a certain country.

Basically the same post only these are just the full rosters in alphabetic order, I also put the player's age at the start of the '26 olympics next to them. (Assuming every team will follow the format of 25 players (3 goalies, 8 d-men & 14 forwards))View attachment 706305View attachment 706306View attachment 706307View attachment 706308View attachment 706309View attachment 707338View attachment 707337View attachment 707336View attachment 706313

Goalies are unbelievable... insanely good.

Forwards get weaker and weaker and who are the C's?

D is the same, starts beautiful with Provrorov, Sergachev and Zub but starts thinning fast.

Could definitely win but definitely not the same depth of Sweden, Canada or US.

Another honorable mention on right wing is Kirill Marchenko and Yakov Trenin at Center. The centers are Kuznetsov, Svechkov, Barbashev, and Grigorenko. I believe Buchnevich might be trying to play center in St. Louis, so he can be another option too. Malkin and Ovechkin might be good enough anymore to compete but I hope I am wrong.

Russia in 2026 Olympics is that realistic at all?
Yes they will probably compete under a different name like they did in the previous two unless the war deescalates before then. It is horseshit that these athletes have to pay for what their government is doing IMO.
