By next year I'd probably pick my team from the following:

Zach Benson - Connor Geekie - Matthew Savoie
Andrew Cristall - Brayden Yager - Ethan Gauthier
Colby Barlow - Calum Ritchie - Matthew Wood
Riley Heidt - Nate Danielson - Koehn Ziemmer
Samuel Savoie - Fraser Minton - Jordan Dumais
Kalan Lind - Carson Rehkopf - Mathieu Cataford

Denton Mateychuk - Tristan Luneau
Owen Pickering - Ty Nelson
Etienne Morin - Maveric Lamoureux
Caden Price - Lukas Dragicevic
Isaiah George - Oliver Bonk

Don't have Bedard, Fantilli, Wright and Korchinski due to NHL duties.

Jordan Gustafson Paul Ludwinski, Jagger Firkus, Owen Beck, David Goyette, Hunter Haight, Mathew Poitras, Rieger Lorenz, Jayden Perron, and Josh Filmon also considered for forward spots.

Cam Allen, Noah Warren, Dylan MacKinnon, Sage Weinstein also in consideration for defense.

Too early to predict goalies.

No locks for this team as of yet.
Yager wont play center.

Barlow Geekie Yager

Benson Beck Heidt

Cristall Danielson Savoie

Gauthier Ritchie Wood

Dumais
Ziemmer

Holy crap. It would be hilarious if Owen Beck actually made the Team Canada squad let alone be the 2nd line center.

Yes - really don’t want any French speakers on the team. Will contribute to us losing.
Is that sarcasm? If so, it doesn't show up in print without you putting an emoji on it to say that it's a joke. If you're being serious, then what the hell are you thinking?!

I still think Fantilli plays in 2024.

I hope, for his sake, Bedard does as well.

Bad take - he will absolutely be on this rendition of Team Canada if healthy.
I didn't like him too much at the tryout camp. A little too soft for the bottom 6 and not nearly skilled enough for a top 6 role. I really like the physical games that Dach, Schaeffer, Ostapchuk Gauthier and Bankier bring to our bottom 6, especially Dach, hits everything in sight. Beck doesn't have that type of physical impact. 2023 is going to be an exceptional draft for Canada. We have a ton of good players coming up. The narrative that we prefer 19 year olds to 18 year old is false........we pick the best players but in general the 19 year olds are usually better than the 18 year olds, that's why they're selected, not because they're19. At this time of year, we don't have any locks or sure bets for the team. We've even been known to cut returnees. No one is gifted a spot on our Canadian teams....they have to perform or stay home. Lots can change within a year with these kids. So for me......Beck doesn't make it despite being considered, by some fans, a lock again.

I don’t disagree with your assessment of him at the two day camp - there is good reason he got sent home from the 2023 team. He made it easy on HC to be honest.

That being said - the WJC is a 19 year old’s tournament, and it is not often an 18 year old is invited to camp one year, cut and not make the team the following year. It is VERY RARE. Beck is a very good two-way player that will be a valuable commodity for HC next year for the third line - given that next years roster may have only one or two returning players, the players that were cut from the 2023 camp definitely have an advantage for this team.

There’s absolutely no way you didn’t put Benson on this roster (unless you think he’ll be in the nhl I guess ;))

He’s already the best player on the ICE (yes objectively better than Savoie and Geekie) and he’s been the driver on his line with Savoie all season.

Solid post.

Benson has been a treat to watch over the past few years continue to develop. I love the rugged game he plays and he will be so valuable to Canada next season. He's a skilled player who is not afraid to go to the dirty areas and do what it takes to hunt pucks down to help his teammates. I love that.

I could easily see the Ice trio having a big time role on the squad next year. There was no reason, IMO, that Savoie didn't get at least an invite to the camp this year. Politics and/or his history with HC aside. But it is what it is. The role he should have next year will make up for it if all goes as planned.

Only four players on this team are even young enough to be back next year: Wright, Korchinski, Fantilli, and Bedard.

Bedard and Wright are definitely unavailable, and I would think Fantilli will be too. So Korchinski is the only returnee in my mind.

Edit: Owen Beck is eligible too. He'll probably be back.

Korchinski and Beck will be back, Bedard won't. Fantilli and Wright likely won't be even though they could still use some more seasoning. Without looking into it all that much it looks like there will be stronger competition next year, Canada should be in tough but there are always some unexpected players who emerge.

Beck if you want to count him will definitely be back.

Outside of that I think someone like Dumais and Savoie are locks as they have some serious offense to make up with all that was lost this year
