He is also the idiot who said, "if you can't skate, you cannot play for the Hawks" nonsense.

With that said, goalies in the draft = HS QB recruit. You also have to draft a goalie, just like you always have to recruit a QB in every recruiting cycle.

I saw the interview and he was emphasizing the premium they put on skating. He is the head cheese of scouting so maybe he would think you're the idiot for calling him an idiot for voicing what attribute will separate a player the Hawks draft from a player they pass on.

I think that's very limited in general.

Two players of similar skill but ones a better skater of course take the better skater.

But a player who is above offensively but is a meh skater....think you take the better offensive guy and hope he gets a bit better in the skating department which, at 18 years old is asking alot.

There's probably some nuance involved plus "can't skate" is obviously not literal so open to subjectivity to be sure.

But, I'm just a shleb on an internet hockey blog - Doneghey is a professional employed by the Hawks at the highest level to evaluate talent - so I'm going to go ahead and believe what he says.

If that's how the draft shakes out for the Hawks I would be pleasantly surprised. Great job.

Other than the lack of size the first 6 picks (minus Yager, though he badly needs to fill out), I like it. I'm a big Nick Lardis guy. Kid really developed rapidly after the trade and he put up some incredible numbers at the combine. And obviously Yager has been my draft crush for a while now.

Certain this has been discussed ad nauseum but is there any way the hawks move up and grab leonard? He could be a difference maker.

That would be amazing but I think he probably goes around #7.
It would probably cost a lot to move up that far.

Molgaard was lower on Bob's list than I was expecting, but it's good for us.

I'd really like for him to be one of our 2nd round selections.

By all accounts, he seems to have very good work ethic and absorbs information like a sponge. I could see him thriving under Richardson.

Just needs to get stronger and put on weight, but he's not soft nor a perimeter player so it bodes well for his future.

Hawks/Leafs draft trade part deux (post Dubas) perhaps? On and it's obvious the Caps want Michkov.

If the Caps get Michkov I wonder if you could potentially see Ovi making a phone call his team in the KHL and getting him out of that contract post-haste.

It would hard to be unhappy for sure. I would be disappointed though that Danielson lasted to 16 and we just missed on him by a couple spots. I got to think if the board fell like this mock we would make a very favorable to Pitts trade to flip picks and take Granlund to get our choice of Yager or Danielson at 14

Who would you grab at 14th overall if we managed to trade up for Pittsburgh's pick?

Wood at 6? Did Button make that pick?

Barlow at 9?

Benson out the top 10?

If Benson falls out the top ten if Davidson isn't moving up he should be slapped in the face with somebody yelling "wake up" with an awful case of halitosis an inch away from him.

The top three defenseman are all reaches that high and if Moore is there at 18 I cannot see Davidson not trading up one spot to get him.

If you could walk away with Bedard, Moore, Cristall at 35, and Nelson at the next this would be a generational draft.
