Some of you guys really buying in to the picking guys cuz weather stuff. It's a pretty dumb move in the 3rd since most these guys are long shots. They probably just liked him more than others

Yes - but the only reason people can see for liking him more than others is that he might be acclimated.

It's neat how most ppl have no clue but will crap on this guy. Interesting strategy

It is like the Stanley pick - No one is crapping on the guy. It is nothing personal. Everyone is crapping on the pick. Huge reach for no obvious reason.

Generally HP is closest. Lots of people have him pretty high but gotta remember most of these people have probably only seen him play maybe twice at most.

So while the appeal to authority is likely a bit more viewings it's not like teams will have had 10+ viewings of him.

What exactly stopped Jets pro scouts from attending Shattuck games? They play in the same region as the Jets!

Seems like an off the board pick as his development seems quite behind. We seem to be banking on him having lots of room to grow and develop. Certainly could happen. Some kids just develop much later.

Definitely a reach. Lets just hope it works out well.

Typical Jets pick that never pans out. Do some wild shit and draft a talented but highly flawed kid instead. Adam Fox went in the 3 round because he could not defend etc. Jets never do those pick. We just keep draft low upside kids who all reach Ahl or wont get signed.

Wonder if they try to get him to play in Brandon next year.

Not sure what low upside is but his upside is probably higher then most if he is considered a late development player.

We won't know what we got likely for 2 to 3 years. If he keeps physically developing and goes to College he could be a very nice middle 6 winger with size.

I think most guys drafted here are projects nothing wrong with that

Mike McIntyre is saying he's heading to Sioux Falls USHL team for 2023-24...

Yeah, he's a year behind most of his peers. He was playing prep hockey this season because he didn't make the Sioux Falls Stampede*.

Yeah, it's the 3rd round, all 3rd round picks are hopes and prayers.

I don't get what people are expecting.
Some hopes and prayers have projectible traits and production that is better than others.

Just because we're not in the 1st round doesn't mean we have to take players who historically make the league 0.00002% of the time instead of guys that make the league 2% of the time.

Just the nature of the business. Players in lower leagues usually get a lot less exposure regardless of location.

The rest of the Jets' draft seems solid but I still can't stand this pick. Deep draft and we seemingly flushed our second best pick down the drain.

What bothers me the most is actually watching the interviews and scouts about his projectability. It seems like he wants to develop into a bottom six grinder...that's fine even if those are a dime a dozen. What bothers me the most is those PIMs. There's one thing being physical to help your team and there's another thing being physical to hurt it and statistically he's the latter...and that's at a fairly low level of hockey for his age. You can't carve a bottom six role in the NHL by sitting in the box (and that's without fighting) because then you can't even carve out a PK role...because you're the one putting your team on the PK and sitting watching your teammates do it.

At least with the other "big and can skate but he's not the best at hockey yet" pick Jacob Julien actually wants to develop his hockey playing.

Interesting pick. Clayton Keller went to the same program and Nehring produced at a higher rate than Keller at the same age. Erik Huala also went there and Nehring's point producing is equitable. Sidney Crosby is also an alumni.

Keller last played there as a d-3 player or 15 year old. He played 2 seasons in the USHL and was drafted out of there.

Crosby also last played there as a 15 year old.

That is sort of the point, it's a good program but the best prospects are long gone by the time they are draft eligible.

Welcome Zach! Don't worry about the guys that like to shoot down any guy that doesn't have Crosby talent! :) Be positive and look forward to playing in front of a massive whiteout in your new building, in the Stanley Cup Finals! You have lots of positive talent in the Black Book the NHL Draft book bible!! GOOD FOR YOU!!!
