The Sportsnet announcers made a good point late in this evening's broadcast: It was such a deep draft nobody wanted to trade away a pick that could turn out to be a good, contributing player.

And maybe the GMs and scouts wanted to get the first round done quick so that they could all get back to Tootsies.

Seems a bit of nonsense when you could double your chances potentially if you feel draft is that deep

For instance, Kyle Davidson and Hawks had 4 2nd round picks as trade chips

Surely say #28 for #44 and #55 would have been smart for GM or even moving down to #35 + one of the two 3rd's the Hawks have.

We shall see but the Leafs who I thought would trade down reached for a guy slated in almost every ranking as a late 2nd/3rd round pick

There are years when the draft is pumped too much about how good and deep it is , yet after the first 6 the conversation dropped off to what each draftee needed to do to make it in the league. It got to the point around 14 and on that none of the broadcasters predictions were close. When it’s all said and done outside the top three pick the draft will be similar to any other year. It may well turn out to be a bust year for the draft. With players picked 10 thru 20 having words used like average to poor skating and comparisons to just average player that have been drafted in the same area. The only trades that would have made sense was moving up to the top 7 after that it became a nahhh we will just wait our turn the difference is not all that great. Chicago was probably the exception they already had there home run and have linemates for him now. It was no surprise all the centers taken. It was also noticeable the Russians and Swed’s and the decreasing number of Canadian players.

There’s probably going to be some guys moved tomorrow but nothing earth shattering like the hype sold the fans before today.

Kyle Davidson meeting with press soon so Hawks are probably done

Hawks tried to trade into 1st round but it didn't work from all reports

Hawks had four 2nd round picks + two 3rd round picks but couldn't parlay anything into a late 1st

-Yep, no takers-

Honestly, with Bedard and Moore, you just got your 1/2 punch for the next 10 years or so. At this point, you can fling darts blindfolded and you still won the draft. Quantity is a quality of its own from here, imo
