Likely not a big deal given the depth of defense prospects in the organization (and his age (25)) but Yegor Zaitsev is off to a nice start in his first season with Spartak.

He is averaging over 18 minutes for the first time in his career and is +5 with 2 goals and 8 points.

His career-high was 14 points in a season.

If nothing else, the signing rights could garner a late round pick or be thrown in as part of a larger trade.

I always liked Zaitsev, he was a top hitter in the KHL at the early age, but he’s signed until 25-26 when he’ll be 27. From Elite Prospects

If he had notable size and teams might have been intrigued but he’s not that big of a guy. (EP has him listed at 6’0” 187.) He’s also LHD which has less demand.

Not a bad #205 pick though.

Yeah, I don't think he is nhler and mostly will never try himself in nhl, but overall he built not bad pro career. Its a good pick for seventh round, he is a hockey player.

So if the online numbers are correct, Casey is outscoring Hutson as of right now. As I read the Akkadian and cuneiform texts, if that continues for another moon, despite the sacrifice of grain and a fatted calf, the great reconciliation is upon us and Gozer the Traveller will come. At least to Montreal.

Charlie Leddy having a strong defensive game for BC against Michigan State. Could be the RD needed to go along with some of the free wheelers in the Devils' pipeline.

There’s a thread on the 2024 USA U20 roster on the International Tourney board.

As posters on that thread point out, and unlike most years, there’s a surplus of 2004 RHD for the team while 2004 LHD is much thinner.

They might take a bigger percentage of RHD, hopefully Leddy still makes the team, but the right side is definitely more competitive.

RHD:
Locks:
Ryan Chelsey (returning 2004; 2022 WSH 2nd #37*), Seamus Casey (2004; 2022 NJD 2nd Rd #46*)
Other:
Sam Rinzel (2004; 2022 CHI 1st Rd #25), Hunter Brzustewicz (2004; 2023 VAN 3rd Rd #75), Eric Pohlkamp (2004; 2023 SJS 5th Rd #132), Charlie Leddy (2004; 2022 NJD 4th Rd #126), Garrett Brown (2004; 2022 WIN 4th Rd #99),
Vincent Borgesi (2004; undrafted)
Not at 2023 US World Summer Showcase:
Ryan Healey (2004; 2022 MIN 4th Rd #121)

LHD:
Locks:
Lane Hutson (returning 2004)
Other:
Jackson Dorrington (2004; 2022 VAN 6th Rd #176), Jake Livanavage (2004; undrafted), Tyler Duke (2004; undrafted)
Younger:
Paul Fischer (2005; 2023 STL 5th Rd #138), Brady Cleveland (2005; 2023 DET 2nd Rd #47), Drew Fortescue (2005; 2023 NYR 3rd Rd #90),

If you pair Hutson and Casey, Lucky Charms rain from the sky and the road straight to El Dorado appears.

Can't help thinking after last year's failed experiment with undersized players on defense that the USA gives defenders like Leddy a lot longer look.

Filmon had a secondary assist on the powerplay Wednesday night in Swift Current's 3 to 2 win. The goal was the game winner too. He was a +/- 0 and went 10 for 22 in the faceoff dot.

Cam Squries was held pointless tonight in Cape Brenton's 4 to 2 win.

Charlie Leddy was a +1 in BC's 6 to 4 win over Michigan State. I didn't see Viktor Hurtig's name on the boxscore the last few games. It said he played a few this year and had scored a goal. He must be injured or possibly being scratched.

Didn't realize he was still on the Devils' reserve list - and is likely no longer viewed as a prospect - but Nikita Popugayev has five goals in his first 11 games in his first season with Lada Togliatti in the KHL. Don't know who he's playing with or his role but could be something there.

Please, no. Even with talent he is not smart player on the ice and very inconsistent. His off the ice actions were double special. Jest let him be.

Fimon had a goal (empty netter) and a primary assist on the game winning goal in Swift Current's 4 to 1 win.

Cam Squires was a -4 today with no points in Capr Brenton's 6 to 0 loss.

Squires and Cole Brown have gone real cold the last few games. Cole Brown only has like 5 points in 15 games...his numbers have dropped this season compared to last years.

Both Squires’ and Brown’s team are pretty bad.

Squires’ QMJHL team has the fewest GF in the league (40 GF in 18 GP).

Only two other teams have less than 50 GF, with 46 GF in 16 GP and 17 GP.

20 year Cameron MacDonald, who Tampa took at #160 in 2021 but never signed, is the only other drafted player on Cape Breton.

Squires is one of Cape Breton’s top producers, along with his center MacDonald. The team’s leading scorer, the undrafted 18 year old Cole Burbidge, centers the 2nd line.

They’ve been shut out in 3 of their last 4 games, so it’s not just Squires.

While Cape Breton is somehow 10th overall (out of 17), Brown’s Brantford Bulldogs are 18th overall (out of 20). (Also the Hamilton Bulldogs decided to call themselves Brantford Bulldogs this season FYI lol.)

Brantford has 43 GF in 14 GP, tied for 2nd lowest, another team has 40 GF in 13 GP.

Brantford has a total of 5 drafted players and Brown is the least productive one. He’s even getting out produced by mocked 2023 Habs pick Florian Xhekaj. (And some non-drafted players as he’s 9th in P/GP.)

Brown has 1 PPG & 1 PPA, so he’s not producing much of anything 5v5. Brown’s on a line centered by Lawson Sherk (14GP 2G 3A) with Xhekaj (12GP 4G 4A), so that doesn’t help, but it’s certainly disappointing.

23/24 Filmon has 2.53 shots per game and a 15.7 sh%
22/23 Filmon had 3.2 shots per game and a 22.8 sh%

Disappointing start to the season. He is playing LW this season with Gould and Laventure. Gould had 4 points in 64 games last year.

Thought I'd read on here that he is playing C, at least sometimes - that would explain the reduced shot volume and increased assists, I think.
