I wouldn't say by far, Sweden is up there aswell. But how would team Alberta do (roughly same amount of population)? Think about it.

Again, Canada is the best and nobody is denying that. But Finland and Sweden are doing the best job per capita, although it doesn't matter and it's just necessary for us to be competitive against Canada.
Sweden has twice as many people and is getting half the results. How each province would stack up is basically unknowable, but they’re not countries so we don’t need to know.

BC would be a better comparison population wise, Finland has roughly 1 million more people than Alberta which has 4.5 million, BC is at the 5.2 million mark and Finland is 5.5

The expressions.

The drama.

The final twist.

All in a split second.

Man it's still insane. What a capture this is!!!

This ending felt like watching The Usual Suspects for the first time lol.

The sheer emotion displayed at this tournament is unreal. The Finnish players in disbelief at the end just lying on the ice capturing the heartbreak. The celebration captured not only through the players but the landed gloves and sticks makes for an amazing capture that'll last forever.

Think my jaw was on the f***ing ground the whole OT.

The drama would make Days of Our Lives jealous.

What a game, man.
It was, indeed. I truly watched McT bat the puck out of the puck 100+ times. I am still shocked it did not go it.

P.S. Prior to McT's defensive gem, he went flying into the boards. My first instinct was to expect a penalty - thinking the Finnish player tripped him but he didn't. The ice must have been mush.

Finland is an amazing hockey power. For such a small country, they sure do produce a LOT of tough high quality players.

So, in December it starts all over again, someone starts a thread: Predict the WJC and dozens of people say that Finland has no chance to win this :)

Also, in December we will hear whining again that that terrorist country who used to be pretty good@hockey should be there and they miss that country so much...

This ending felt like watching The Usual Suspects for the first time lol.

I love the reaction of the woman on the left, below the guy with the white Hockey Canada jersey, with her hands on her head. Again, I would love to see the next 2 dozen frames.

IIHF needs to change the format for overtime in the Gold Medal Game:
1st overtime period should be played 5 on 5
if needed, 2nd overtime period should be played 4 o 4
and then, if needed, 3rd (etc) OT to be played 3 on 3

I liked it 3 on 3 - but I may be in the minority.

I thought 3on 3 was great. I’ve been watching it long enough in the NHL now that I am acclimatized to it, but it must still be a bit of a shock to those that aren’t. I don’t think Europe has that yet, do they?

Not sure.

I agree, the first time you see 3 on 3, it's a shock. Now, I prefer it. Plus, the games don't drag on forever.

Oh ya Finland is easily the best after Canada, you've been better than Sweden, Russia, Czechs and US for a while now at basically all levels. It always used to be Russia as the opponent in our way, but they seemed to have taken a drop off for a number of years now, so now its been Canada-Finland as the most common final at all levels.

Well, yes they most definitely have...I mean having literally been dropped off the list of countries eligible to play recently :DD

Your point around relating missing players to registered players in a country is nonsense and a complete non sequitor.

Of course the best hockey countries have the most registered players.

When talking about players not being available, it's relative to the number of players who WOULD have been on the team otherwise but didn't come and those did make the team.
Lol what?!?

Of course it matters, how many registered players country has.. Unless you're trying to say that some countrys product much more star players than others..

Let's do somekind of math... (numbers are just random and not anywhere true)

If there would be a star player for every 1k player.. Then Canada would have +300 of them, and Finland 65.

So Canada would have much larger pool of star players, just because there's much bigger pool to begin with..

So Finland losing 1 it's star players would convert Canada losing 4,6 star players etc..

Last 10 years :

Canada -

4 World Junior Gold ('15, '18, '20, '22)
3 World Championships ('15', '16, '20)
1 Best vs Best Olympic Gold ('14)
1 World Cup of Hockey ('16)
Total : 9 Golds all levels.

Finland -

3 World Junior Gold ('14, '16, '19)
2 World Championships ('19, '22)
0 Best vs Best Olympic Golds
0 World Cup of Hockey
Total : 5 Golds all levels.

Canada with 1 gold shy of double. But its obvious that Finland has been the clear cut #2 for the past 10 years.
Hmm.. you list whc's, but then left out olympics?
