Wow, they just traded away Vanacek as well, so they must have a trade worked out or something. Sam was making backup money at $2M. You would think they'd keep one or the other.

Samsonov never seemed to take things seriously enough though, got COVID multiple times from partying. Guess it was easier for McLellan to blame the goalies than his inability to put together a defense.

Sam isn't worth $3M for sure. He's backup level at best.

8 yrs hahahaha!! New GM already making mistakes, gotta love it. Hopefully $5+ too.

They'll regret that by year 3 imo.

Career 29pt/82gp, has 1 career year, raising avg. to 35pt/82gp = EIGHT! Years

EDIT: Even Better... 8 years, $49m, AAV $6.125m per

Goodbye Kadri, Burak, Manson etc. Goodbye Future Cups

I could see Malkin coming here for a short term deal at a high cap. I know he was a Wings fan, and the Wings could potentially trade him to a contender on the deadline, retaining half his cap.

While I don't think we should be signing big name players, Kadri would definitely inject some much needed personality and flair to an otherwise very boring team.

Hope Malkin will sign with Washington.

It’s kind of the perfect place. They need a high end C to fill in for Backstrom whose career might be over. With Backstrom on the LTIR, they have space for him, the window is open to try to make a run with their aging core, they have Russians (Ovi, Kuzy, Orlov), and it gives Geno the chance to stick it to the team he felt insulted him and didn’t know why they didn’t want him

Also it kind of sticks it to Pittsburgh.
Which is a box he may be intent on checking.

I see Geno on: (in this order)

1. WSH C
2. NYR C
3. FLA W/C
4. CAR C/W
5. Pittstain (maybe they circle back by 7-13) C
6. DET C
7. LA - plays mostly W/ some C in top6

Burke after Geno signs in WSH.
