Seattle is going to take Bastian unless we give them something to take Butch or 11.

I would be willing to throw in a mid-level prospect or mid-round pick for Seattle to take Johnsson over either Butcher or Bastian. Butcher might have some trade value because he's a defenseman who can pump some life into a PP, while Bastian certainly has the most value for the Devils of the three players. Johnsson has no value to the Devils on the ice and a bad contract to boot.

Unless something changes with the team prior to the expansion draft, I wouldn't waste any asset trying to deal with Seattle. We aren't risking losing anyone important enough or needing to get rid of anyone badly enough for it to happen.

I also thing Buffalo takes Power and it makes a lot of sense for Seattle to take Beniers.

I read somewhere that Power is considering not entering the draft or something like that....

Power is considering returning to the University of Michigan for his sophomore season. And extra year of development is never bad for a D -- see Makar and Q. Hughes. But some skeptics think it's a power play because he does not want to be drafted by Buffalo which, judging by Buffalo's recent history of disfunction both in the front office and on the ice, would not be extremely shocking.

Buffalo has an owner with a quick trigger finger and their organization needs improvement virtually everywhere, but they are not getting the money for scouting or development from the higher ups. This puts a lot of pressure on the GMs, AGMs and coaches to turn things around quickly -- and Power saying he does not want to play in the NHL next year could push the Sabres towards Beniers.

Who knows? This would be a foolish decision for Buffalo, but you're talking about a team which received less for Taylor Hall and Brandon Montour than the Devils did for Kyle Palmieri and Travis Zajac, or the Blue Jackets did for a shell of what used to be Nick Foligno.

Seems like a hollow threat unless he's ready to stay at Michigan until he hits UFA, but Kevyn Adams got clowned at the deadline so who knows, maybe it works.

Pronman just released his newest rankings and he’s definitely not as high on Clarke as others. Can’t say I disagree with him from some of the film I’ve watched. I could see pace becoming an issue.

Can you please link to these rankings so I can see them?

P.S.
The way the Isles are playing, the Devils pick might unfortunately wind up at #32.
Id trade it anyway, so it shouldnt matter much

if we pick there its a grab-n-go , any of 30 names could go there. Doesnt seem like much to fret over considering the lack of scouting

Yeah, I know, they seem like a machine at this point. Who had Kyle Palmieri as a Conn Smythe contender?

Top 151 Prospects for 2021 NHL Draft: Owen Power leads Corey Pronman's final rankings

Thanks for the link. I love Pronman, but -- as always -- I disagree with a lot of his rankings. I think his natural inclination is to err on the side of caution, while I tend to look at the draft eligibles in the most optimistic light possible. I think he's undervaluing a few players I'm pretty high on, like Lysell, Rosen and Pinelli. Humorously enough, we agree almost to a tee on guys like Lucius and Edvinsson.

I know you typically grade defensemen much different than Wheeler, who is almost exclusively focused on offensive production. How do you typically compare with Pronman on your d rankings?
