We are guaranteed 2 top 6 picks so here is my top 6 in order for who i would draft for the Sens:

1. Alexis Lafreniere
2. Quinton Byfield
3. Tim Stutzle
4. Jamie Drysdale
5. Marco Rossi
6. Lucas Raymond

I think any 2 of those and we have an amazing draft.

Guys I would be weary of in the top 6:

Cole Perfetti
Jake Sanderson
Yaroslav Askarov

Just my opinion, but unless we trade back i don't really care for them.

Clearly Crouse & Zacha picked that early was a scouting mistake especially Crouse who they might have been able to draft much later. However, what is different with Crouse & Zacha is that both can fill a role on a lower line that someone like Yakapov for example can't do. Crouse has become a 4th line enforcer & Zacha could bring an element of skill to the bottom six while some of those other guys, if they aren't scoring they aren't doing much of anything else.

Daigle takes a lot of abuse here, but in his first & third yr was a very good player & just a notch below Yashin in talent IMO, his 2nd yr he was injured for most of that yr. The problem with Daigle was not hockey, but what he himself wanted to do with his life. It was his father's dream for him to play NHL hockey, but Daigle wanted something else. Not his fault if you don't have the passion for the career you have pursued for someone else & Ottawa gave him the contract without much negotiation so again not his fault.

I've never been a fan of Yakapov or Drouin & at least Drouin has had a little more success although I still view him as a bad pick. Strome like Zacha with his size & skill can at the least fill in a 4th line role, so as not to be a total loss, although as it turns out was a bad pick to draft that early. If Yakapov is not on a scoring line & scoring consistently they are pretty much useless to do anything else while these bigger guys have an opportunity to fill a bottom six role.

I don't disagree with what much of what you are saying here. I just don't see value in being a safe bet to be a third liner (Crouse isn't even a third liner, like you said) until later in the first or early second. It should not be propelling a prospect into a top 10 selection.

Lots of great insights on the top OHLers available this year from a number of people who watch a lot of OHL hockey

There’s definitely some good prospects in the top 6 and we will be getting 2 of them. What will leave me a sour taste in my mouth is if 3 low odds (8th-15th) teams bump us back out of the top 3. BTW, my luck on Tankathon sucks!

My top-6 is short on surprises like most on here, except I have Rossi higher than most(which I guess isn't a surprise either considering my obvious Rossi-stan status).

1. Alexis Lafreniere
2. Quinton Byfield
3. Tim Stutzle
4. Marco Rossi
5. Jamie Drysdale
6. Lucas Raymond

I could very well swap Raymond with Perfetti as I think he's got huge potential as well.

I feel really good about my top 5. At 6 its murkey and all the guys in that range are close for me but Holtz gets the nod atm

I like this group (maybe swap BY-Stut). I don’t think Rossi comes close to a top pick unless the Sens go heavy on org need.

If we get LAF and 5 I can live with Rossi but prefer the Swedes or Drysdale. 5 and 6 is just a nightmare I’m not prepared to consider at this point. That 7 to 6 to 5 reverse draft order reveal is going to be stressful.

Pretty close to me,

1. Laf
2. Byfield
3. Stutzle
4/5. Raymond/Drysdale
6. Tossup between Holtz, Perfetti, Rossi and Sanderson

I lean towards Raymond and Holtz in their groups, but on any given day might flip...

Think about what you were expecting 9 months ago: San Jose were going to make the playoffs and Sens were supposed to finish bottom three. Now we probably will have a top 3 and a 4th or 5th. The worst case scenario is a lot better than anybody's expectations. I won't be stressed neither will have trouble sleeping about it.
We going to make out like bandits!!!

I decided to do 20 sims and see how many times each pick hit each spot

Here are the odds for Ottawa/SJ to pick 1st through 6th

San Jose11.5%11.3%11.1%13.2%37.7%15.2%

Here is what happened

Ottawa
1st = 2/20 = 10%
2nd = 4/20 =20%
3rd = 1/20 = 5%
4th = 10/20 = 50%
5th = 3/20 = 15%

San Jose
1st = 3/20 = 15%
2nd = 1/20 =5%
3rd = 2/20 = 10%
4th = 3/20 = 15%
5th = 8/20 = 40%

Overall (percentage of times we got each pick regardless of which pick)

If the Senators can get Lafreniere and 1 of your other top 5, I will be “over the moon” happy. :)

Dude.. You were all over Crouse in his draft year.

Obviously some scouts agreed with you but you advocated picking him above a player like Konecny, who has become a 1st line talent.

5 Spins:
1 & 5 - Laf & Rossi (assuming Drysdale, Stutzle & Byfield are taken)
4 & 5 - Drysdale & Rossi (assuming Laf, Stutzle & Byfield are taken)
2 & 5 - Byfield & Raymond (assuming Laf, Stutzle & Drysdale are taken)
1 & 4 - Laf & Drysdale (assuming Stutzle and Byfield are taken)
4 & 5 - See above

*Byfield is my number 2 as of right now, but wouldn't be upset at all if we took Stutzle instead
