Tank engine has stalled. Only EDM and MTL won last night and they were always the least likely to be caught by us. We make ground on OTT and VAN and pull away a bit from ARI...

On the other hand pump that trade value on Kane and hopefully Lehner.

I remember the pre-season arguments about how Montreal was a bonafide playoff team. LOL

I told everyone and their mother they wont make it. Was pretty sure about the Rangers too. One thing I was wrong though was Buffalo, thought we will be 3rd or 4th in the division and making playoffs...well that last one didnt exactly materialize.

Yeah kinda more worried about Ottawa at this point than Arizona. They are actively trying to destroy their team so they will probably slump hard and if we are remotely competitive we will probably pass them. Oh and Vancouver are 2-7-1 in last 10 but at least they don't seem to be such active sellers so they may come back to live and stay in front.

I thought this would be the day when we claimed last place for good. It was nice to see a win... Gut feeling says Edmonton+Arizona wins tonight.

Don't give a sheet about the tank - if we win the lottery, great. Welcome to Buffalo, Rasmus. If not, Svechnikov, Tkachuk, Zadina, Boqvist are all very nice consolation prizes.

This team, as currently constituted, doesn't need help finding the bottom. They're already there and I don't need to be rooting for them to be any more lower.

Schedule breakdown for remaining games...

Hard:
WSH, PHI, PIT, TBL, BOS, TOR, NSH, WPG, MIN, VGK, SJC, DAL, LA
Med:
ANA, COL, STL, NJD, CGY, CAR, CBJ, FLA
Easy:
NYI, NYR, CHI, DET, MTL, EDM, VAN, OTT, BUF, ARI

Easy/Med/Hard
VAN - 7 / 4 / 6 (9 home, 8 away)
OTT - 6 / 7 / 6 (9 home, 10 away)
BUF - 7 / 2 / 8 (10 home, 7 away)
ARI - 6 / 7 / 6 (8 home, 11 away)

We have still probably the worst schedule overall in terms of playing the top teams. Unfortunately we tend to play against these teams....We also have a lot of home games, but we tend to play worse at home than away...Still think it's quite possible we finish dead last based on this.

The 2014-15 Sabres get two whole paragraphs in WaPo's article today on tanking in pro sports.

https://www.washingtonpost.com/spor...8e748f892c0_story.html?utm_term=.03c368b0085a

In Buffalo, fans of the NHL’s Sabres famously cheered an overtime goal that dealt the home team a loss near the end of the 2015 season, when they were angling for the top overall draft pick and a chance to get phenom Connor McDavid. That season, the Sabres traded away their best defenseman (Tyler Myers) for an injured player (Evander Kane) who wouldn’t play another game that year and also dealt away their starting and backup goaltenders.

Though the Sabres indeed wound up with the NHL’s worst record, the Edmonton Oilers won the draft lottery, the top overall pick and the rights to McDavid. The Sabres were content with the consolation prize of Jack Eichel, but while Edmonton made the playoffs in 2016-17 with McDavid, both teams are among the worst in the league this season.

If leagues wanted to get rid of tanking as something bad for the sport they wouldnt reward bottom teams the best talent. Tanking is not some shameful act that should be punished as per the quoted NBA rep in the article if your lragues rules actually encourage it. Tanking is simply taking advantage of the system that is set up, nothing more, nothing less.
