The team to blame at this point is the Cubs.

Arrieta looks to be a far better pitcher than Darvish right now. The breakdown in $ between the 2 deals the first 3 years is really not that different either.

Crazy Rangers-Yankees game. 11-10 Rangers now!

The Astros are now at +107 after 49 games. And their lineup hasn't even really gotten going.

This is their runs allowed per game, the last six series:
0, 4, 3, 2, 2, 1, 1, 1, 1, 2, 3, 0, 1, 5, 1, 2, 1.

Heading into a nice stretch now, four at Cleveland, three at NY, four at home vs. Boston.

These next 11 games will be interesting to watch for Houston. Chances are those 3 teams along with Houston will be making the playoffs. Wonder how Houston will do.

The Astros starters have been awesome. They will have to figure out their back end of their bullpen though. The AL looks tough this year.

As far as the Phillies are concerned, they are a good team. These 6 weeks before the all star break is tough, but if their starters keep pitching the way they are they should be fine.

Darvish is doing Darvish things. He's a stubborn finesse pitcher with a high 90's fastball who's going to pound his slider whether or not it's actually breaking.

Letting Arrieta walk was entirely rational.

Figure out what exactly? Their bullpen's ERA is 2.98, and if you take out Sipp and Smith, the two guys they use the least, it shrinks to 2.10.

Their overall team ERA (starters and pen) is 2.39, almost a full run better than the second best team, Philadelphia at 3.36. The pitching isn't a worry right now. The hitting has been slow, but that's coming around.

You trust their closer? That is their issue. Their bats should pick up. But baseball is a weird sport. Some years teams rake, and the next they dont. See the 2016-2017 Red Sox.

Everyone seemed to have *slight* down years compared to the previous season for the Red Sox in 2017. Betts went from MVP caliber to simply good-great, but they also lost Ortiz and his monster 2016 campaign. So, you're right in that they didn't perform to their 2016 levels for the most part but a big cog in the lineup retired and that had a ton to do with it.

Giles hasn't been horrible, but if he can't do it, they have plenty of options. And I'm sure if it becomes a real issue they'll make a move to address it.

Not concerned about the hitting at all, too many good bats on that team and bear in mind that they're still 4th in the league for runs scored, so it's not like they've been abysmally bad. And they're getting better. 15 of their last 20 games they've scored 4 or more, which is usually plenty with this pitching staff.

Dunning looks promising and Lopez is pitching great for Sox so not sure how you can ignore them as part of trade

Because that's basically a normal trade, a prospect etc for a every day player. It went from everyone saying it was a significant overpay to a normal trade so rizzo looks like a genius compared to what everyone thought off earlier

Meh. I'll believe all the genius hype over Rizzo when he manages to make that trade or signing that gets that consistently underachieving team to win a playoff series.

It's mind-boggling that that team with the talent and championship window they've had for several years hasn't even been able to get out of the divisional round.

Brewers just sent down Arcia.

Further proof they rushed him to the bigs in 2016.

It was ridiculous they called him up in 2016. He was below average as a hitter in 2016 and that was aided by a .856 OPS in Colorado Springs. He hit .231/.269/.330 on the road. He's basically just another pitcher out there right now.
