That entire U17 group/'01 birthyear is so ridiculous. Loaded with talent. NTDP is in 1st place in the USHL for, I think, the first time ever. That group is something.
yes they are, first time ever to make the playoffs. I am surprised they brought up their goalie Knight with the playoffs coming...I find it out to bring up Knight to the u18 team to sit the bench behind DeRidder when he could get valuable playoff games with the u17 team...just odd, maybe it is just me I dont know.

Marian Hossa should come back, and Jokiharju + Forsling play above their heads.

Sikura-Anisimov-Kane
Debrincat-Schmaltz-Duclair
Hayden-Kampf-Hinostroza

Keith-Jokiharju
Forsling-Murphy
Dahlstrom-Seabrook

Crawford
Forsberg

Okay, with Hartman now gone and us having Nashville's first, I have decided to change my earlier post about adding Tavares.

Instead the Hawks will sign BOTH Tavares and De Haan (JT getting $10.5m x 8years, De Haan getting $4m x 4 years). Hawks still pay off Bettman to get Svechnikov (or hell, Zadina). Bowman trades Nashville's first with Hossa to Arizona. We dump Anisimov with no salary coming back. We are again promised by Bowman's best friend Gary that there will be a compliance buyout in summer of 2019 that can be used on Seabrook. We also re-sign Hino, Rutta, Duclair, Hayden, and Jurco. Sikura signs with the Hawks.

Saad-Toews-Svechnikov (or Zadina-Toews-Saad if we only draft #3overall)
DeBrincat-Tavares-Kane
Sikura-Schmaltz-Duclair
Jurco/Hayden-Kampf-Hino
Maybe Wingels

Keith-Murphy
Forsling-Rutta
De Haan-Seabrook/Oesterle

Crawford
Not anywhere close to as good as Crawford

Boom, cup champs. You know, if Crow is healthy. Otherwise we're still doomed.

I don't agree. Like at all.

I mean, I highly doubt that lineup actually happens, but if it does, watch out.

Svechnikov is not good enough to carry Toews/Saad.

2nd line is great, but very weak defensively.

Sikura is an unknown, Duclair is inconsistent. Schmaltz has really only looked good consistently with Kane, so that line is just relatively unknown.

4th line is solid.

Top 4 is bad, Rutta, Forsling, Murphy are not top 4 D-men on a contending team.

Defense needs huge upgrades.

Schmaltz looked great with Toews and Panik last year before the playoffs. Also, I'm pretty sure Schmaltz has only played with Kane this year, so he hasn't looked good away from Kane because we haven't seen him away from Kane.

If Hossa decides he’s done, it’ll be easy to move his deal. His cap hit is 5 mil and real dollar value is 1 mil. That’s worth a lot to Arizona I would assume. Detroit dumped Datsyuk (who wasn’t in the same situation dollar value wise) and only cost them 4 places in the first round

Was listening to an interview on TSN and they mentioned how Chicago could use the assets from the Hartman trade to hop in the Karlsson sweepstakes this summer. So, I put together a lineup with Karlsson. The trade would be Chicago 1st + NSH 1st + Forsling for a sign and trade deal with Ottawa for EK. Thoughts?

Going to take more than that. They'll want a young player like Schmaltz or DeBrincat on top of all of that, I would think. Hawks pick should be fairly high but the NSH pick will be low and Forsling is a fine prospect but hardly a can't-miss. Ottawa will want more.

After seeing the McDonough deal, it crossed my mind too seeing as how we have 2 1sts. It’d be tough to give up that top 1st and you’re banking on this simply being a down/recovery year for EK. However, if that helps you resign him cheaper and he does bounce back, it’d be a great trade to make. Lots of risk in a move like this but the payoff could be extraordinary.

Just realized that I did not bump up the cap ceiling to what it will be worst case, which is probably 78m. So, they will have some additional cap to acquire another defenseman or a bottom 6 forward.

But yeah, agree BL, Ottawa will probably look for more and a team that can take on Ryan because their owner is cheap.

Screwed up the last roster w/Karlsson trade. They could move Jokiharju if they wanted. Anyway, this one is better and with a 78m cap ceiling.

Plan for 2019 would be extend EK to 8x10, use a compliance buyout on Seabrook, re-sign Schmaltz and DeBrincat, bank on organic cap growth and move Anisimov if extra space is needed.

Seems like a roster that can absolutely compete for the West next season assuming health, bounce back years, etc.

Ottawa asked two first and high-end prospect at the deadline for Karlsson. I think the price is going down in summer. Not lot but still a bit.

I would do the trade if we arent drafting 1OA. Two first in 2018 and Forsling. Doubt Sens do it but yeah. I would trade Zadina/Svechnikov and late 1st and Forsling for EK for 9 years. I think his playing style is a lot like Keith’s and he can be first pairing Dman till he is 38-40. He is so smooth.

I just dont think it would work cap wise because Seabrook’s compliance buy-out is year too late I think and Schmaltz needs a raise too.

Kovalchuk-Toews-Hino
Debrincat-Schmaltz-Kane
Saad-Anisimov-Duclair
Hayden-Kampf-Edjsell
Wingles (resign)

Keith-Oesterle
De Hann-Murphy
Forsling-Rutta
Carlsson

Crawford
Ward

Trade Hossa plus B prospect to Arizona for cap relief once its known hes done for good.
Seabrook + later 1st + Krys for 5th rounder to anyone who will take him

Sign Kovy 5 for 3years De Hann 4 for 4years (injury risk) and Cam Ward 2 for 1year

No idea what that cap would be.

I kind of like adding Kovalchuk but three years is too much. And I would slot him with Kane.

I think our offense is good enough - especially if Defense is improved. Better mobility from the backend/D-men who get shots on net, and better system = better offense from forwards. Talent is there.

We need to trade for Trouba, and sign one of Hickey, Moore, De Haan or Cole.

Pick up a guy like Leivo as a reclamation project for the LW.

Once the Seabrook buyout occurs, and if Sikura can play as C, move Anisimov, and use all the cap to add a veteran top 6 winger.

Debrincat - Toews - Duclair
Saad - Schmaltz - Kane
Sikura - Anisimov - Hayden
Leivo - Kampf - Hinostroza

Keith - Trouba
Forsling - Murphy
Moore - Seabrook
Oesterle

Crawford
Forsberg

PP1 -
Schmaltz-Anisimov-Kane
Trouba-Forsling

PP2-
Debrincat-Toews-Saad/Duclair

Can't the Nashville pick be as high as 17?

And am I the only one who wouldn't want EK? I mean... this team needs defense. Not a 4th forward. His D is pretty abysmal. I don't think EK comes close to Keith defensively... like some have compared. Even Keith now is better defensively than EK, IMO.

Yeah it can be I am just assuming it won't be and I tend to think Ottawa wouldn't bank on it being that high either in this scenario. There'd have to be some other condition built in based on where that NSH 1st ends up.

I'm not in on Karlson...or Carlson, for that matter. Now Karlsson, that's another matter. And if there is a Carlsson out there, gotta want him too.

In fantasy world where we land Karlsson, we would very quicky fall in love with him. It would let Keith play little bit less but against top-competition as shutdown D with Murphy.

Keith - Murphy
Oesterle - Karlsson
Snuggerud - Seabrook

Or something like that.

Doh! I get the spellings confused. Was thinking the Ottawa Karlsson went with one "s". Anyway, I pass on him and the Cap's Carlson.
