watching the playoffs last night all i could think is that they are a long ways off from competing right now. Its gunna be tough to stop Laine, Wheeler, and Ehlers in the future.

Laine is going to get paid...a lot. His release is incredible.

The talent in Winnipeg is off the charts good. Our team pails in comparison to them. Scheifele = Toews of old, Wheeler is almost up there with Kane offensively, then they still have Laine, Ehlers, Stastny, Little, Perrault, and a great shutdown line with Lowry and Copp. Unreal.

Wheeler is not close to Kane but I agree with most of the rest.

Crazy that everyone was calling for KC's head this time last year.

How isn't he?
Last 3 seasons:
Kane 271pts
Wheeler 243pts

a difference of 9pts a season. He's obviously not as good, but he is right there.

Love watching the Jets play. Hope they win it all this year.

Also, I’m all for cutting bait on Duclair. Looks like his hockey IQ is quite low. Hard to watch him play.

Wheeler is not a game changer like Kane. Wheeler is a good player but Kane is the next level. It is worth mentioning that Wheeler's point total was carried by Laine and their PP. Dig into the stats.

Wheeler is very good player by his own but he is elite only with good players. Kane is elite with lesser players.

40 PP points for Wheeler. Wow.

I think AA gets traded at the draft ..... he has a NTC that goes into effect in July

Time mto force feed Schmaltz as the #2 center on a line with Kane and DCat

You're a bit backwards here.

AA has a full NMC that relaxes with an L-NTC starting in July. While I don't think it's outside of the realm of possibility that he does get moved at the draft, it would technically be easier to move him in July.

I agree. I would hardly say his point total was carried by Laine. He put up great numbers before Laine came around (70+ pts). He is a top RW in the NHL, not quite on Kanes level but close.

You're right .... his Modified NMC goes into effect July 1 .... he can list 10 teams he can be traded to

I would Still move him .... he's getting slower and more injury prone

I am talking about his point increase and Laine has a lot to do with that. I never said Wheeler was not a 1st line RW but he is no where close to Kane. Kane is a step above him.

Let's say a full year of Gus on the PP, and these lines: my point predictions.

Saad (30g/30a) - Schmaltz (20g/40a) - Kane (30g/50a)
Debrincat (30g/20a) - Toews (20g/30a) - Hinostroza (15g/25a)
Sikura (10g/20a) - Anisimov (20g/15a) - Duclair (15g/15a)
Jurco (10g/10a) - Kampf (5g/10a) - Hayden (10g/10a)

Keith (4g/31a) - Murphy (2g/14a)
Forsling (5g/25a) - Rutta (7g/20a)
Gustafsson (5g/30a) - Seabrook (8g/20a)

I think I’ve settled on the top six I want to see next year.

DeBrincat (35g/30a) - Schmaltz (15g/50a) - Kane (30g/50a)
Saad (30g/25a) - Toews (25g/35a) - Hinostroza (15g/25a)

The rest, I really don’t know. If Anisimov is moved, I guess it’s Sikura/Hayden/Kampf as the third line center. But I feel like the whole bottom six is up in the air. Also, Stan mentioned Schmaltz, DeBrincat, and Hino as must re-signs. I don’t know if that means Duclair is out.

I think your defensive prediction is spot-on, barring a Klefbom (fingers crossed for Chiarelli making another moronic move) or Carlson coming in.

Haven't read most of this thread so I don't know if anyone suggested Kovalchuk but I wouldn't mind taking a chance on him for a couple years. Maybe John Moore or Ian Cole as a UFA d-man.

Kovy - Schmaltz - Kane
Cat - Toews - Saad
Sikura - Anisimov - Vinnie
? - Kampf - Hayden

Keith - Seabrook
Moore - Rutta
Gus - Murphy

Kovy is apparently going to NYR. Rather them go after JVR or Evander Kane if they want a top 6 winger. Draft might dictate what direction they go in free agency. If they land a defenseman that can step into the top 6 next year I can see Bowman kicking the tires on JVR + Kane in FA. If someone like Tkachuk falls then they probably slot him in at 3c and flip Anisimov for cap space with intent to kick tires on Moore and De Haan.

Curious to see what people would think about a trade for Damon Severson. Him and Murphy have similar contracts.
