It scares me that Bowman has yet to trade Hossa or Anisimov yet. Those were like the two things he had to do, and if he doesn’t then it’s a telltale sign of a long season upcoming.

To spend the money on who? Removing cap only is worthwhile if you're making good signings with it.

well, teams also have to consider Seattle coming in 2 years, need to be prepared now for what guys you can/have to protect...plus the big domino needs to fall, once Tavares is off the board, shit starts flying on the walls as everyone else tries to catch up.
