If offered, would you trade our 1st, assuming it's a worst pick than St.L, for Holtby?

He has 2 more years at 6.1 million.

no.

Haven't we seen enough hockey to come to the conclusion that the goalie position is not about the Goalie. Take any goalie , put them behind a great responsible defensive team and voila a good save percentage. Put them behind a bad scoring team and voila a terrible save pct. The goals last night scored on Mrazek were primo scoring chances. No one is going to save those.

Only if we can play two goalies in net, one behind the other.

Then we'll need four goalies on the roster.

Really? Because I certainly saw Bob save a few that were just as difficult.
You're not going to save all the tough ones, but good goalies save some of them.

But in fairness, it's scary taking chances when you have Dmen who can't play a 2-1 properly and a goalie who can't stop breakaways.

And it's scary taking chances when only your first line can consistently capitalize on them.
The second line right now looks great but doesn't score, which doesn't bother me, start two rookies who are both getting their NHL legs and you have to expect growing pains - though at some point they'll turn the tide and the goalies will part like the Red Sea.
The other lines? Do you really want them being overaggressive given they can't score if it's not an empty net.

I'm not even talking about defensemen jumping up. Even the forwards.

This team is 26th in shot attempts (many coming from the point), 30th in scoring chances, and 29th in high danger scoring chances 5v5. The only way you are scoring at a respectable clip that way is if you are shooting at unsustainably high percentages. It's a pretty simple concept.

But if you are afraid of giving up an odd man rush once in a while, you are not going to score in this league.

That's one hell of a system!!!

Only 6 teams in the league score at a lower clip than the Flyers 5v5- Detroit, Carolina, Vancouver, Montreal, Arizona, and Buffalo. Not the company you want to have.

All of those teams are shooting well below the league average too so lack of skill factors in there. The Flyers are right around it. They don't score because of a lack of volume.

Well, Hakstol's scheme doesn't slow down the first line, or even the second line (they've had plenty of HDSC since Lindblom arrived).
So maybe it's just wretched talent on the other two lines and the bottom of the defense?

Hakstol plays his lines differently. His safe lines play extra safe. So when he maxes out their ice time to close out games, boom. Hakshell.

The most extreme and obvious example was PEB last year, when he was playing more as an old-style rover at the blue line waiting to fall back rather than joining in on offense.

Also anyone notice how Laughton is at exclusively playing dump and chase. It feels like 4th line is coaches to generate defense. Even Bellemare has seen his numbers go up after doing the same last few years.

I think you could get away with trading less because not many teams need a goalie but I would do this in a heartbeat unless our management team really believes Hart will be ready before 2019. Elliott and a second for Holtby. If Washington goes out quickly this could happen as they need cap space and would look for some major changes in the org
