Had my doubts but the Jays finally pulled it off.

Indians could easily rebound and finish them off in five, IMO, so Toronto needs to build off this new momentum while they still have the home crowd at their backs.

Only way I see the Indians finishing this off tomorrow is if Estrada completely implodes, because the Indians aren't likely to get good pitching tomorrow. I think Tomlin and Kluber will need to win this at home for them.

If you're Cleveland, you don't want this to get to Friday.

Don't give the Blue Jays life- and it is worth noting THEIR starting pitching was not the reason they fell behind 3-0. Heck, the way they pitched, this series at worst could have been 2-2.

Agreed. Toronto's offense trumps Cleveland's, so if the Indians pitchers can't regain control of the series it'll flip in a big hurry.

Still a tall order but the wins will only get easier now for the Jays, and only tougher for the Indians.

That's not really true. That part of the narrative only exists tomorrow. After that the tribe can throw out Tomlin for game 6 at home on normal rest and if necessary Kluber on short rest again at home in game 7.

Hey, they could close out the series in five, easy-peasy.

I'm just saying that, in a case like this where Toronto needs to win four in a row or their season is over, each ensuing win adds momentum.

Suppose the Jays win the next two.

Which game do you think the Indians would be more sure about; Game 4, or Game 7? How about Toronto?

This game was a mountain for the Jays, practically on life support with the Indians looking to pull the plug. Winning this game showed signs of life. Hopefully it only gets better.

Momentum doesn't exist in sports.

Blue Jays will in all likelihood win tomorrow, but its not because they have "momentum" its because they have an absolutely insane pitching advantage.

Five runs a game will do just fine. This could be a wake up call for the Jays...hopefully they take it to Cleveland tomorrow and we could have a different series.

Momentum absolutely exists in sports. In every single sport.

Coaches talk about it, players talk about it, fans talk about it, and momentum happens on a regular basis. The reverse of a "slump" more or less.

It's affect is often over stated, however.

Momentum doesn't exist in sports. Just because people talk about it doesn't make it real. That's like saying if you flip heads on a coin 3 times in a row its more likely to come up heads on the next flip. Its total non-sense and sports romanticism.

Momentum exists in the sense that people think it does exist. And because they think this, it will have a tangible, obvious effect on their performance.

A bit different is your coin example, which is governed by set laws of probability: however, the "sports romanticism" part has the same effect as above, and will have an effect on a person's decision making.

All that said, of the Big 4 baseball is clearly the sport in which momentum has the least impact because of the pace and individual nature.

Well promising first inning from Merritt. I'm still not confident with an untested lefty against the barrage of righties the Jays have, especially one with bad AAA numbers like Merritt. If he can get through 5 with a lead though he's done his job.

If Upton is in the starting lineup, why not have him in RF and put Bautista in at DH?
