Being realistic, we wouldn't sign a single top UFA and we're more likely to not get a top 3 pick (meaning no Matthews/Laine/Puljujarvi in our lineup). At the same time I don't want to be realistic because that means we'll bring back our useless, easily replaceable depth players (Vey/Granlund/etc).

It'll leave us with ~$8M in cap space. We can take a cap dump or two later in the year for some picks/prospects. If we could lure a better d-man or a winger with the money I'd be fine with that, but I don't see it happening. If we get a top 3 pick, throw McCann or Virtanen in the AHL if they get outplayed in training camp.

You would think the Sedins would tell Eriksson to stay away.

He is also at an age where you would think he would value a long contract. Why would we give it to him? Even if he has a style that should allow him to have a long career I don't want us to have Eriksson on a big money contract 4-5 years from now.

I just hope we go cheap. Another high pick and then with Miller, Burrows and Higgins gone we might be able to do something. The year after if we could get the Sedins signed to a good value contract who knows might happen. To add Eriksson and Lucic next season doesn't make any sense to me. We will just be OK - which will get us nowhere.

Granlund really doesn't make any sense to me, but.....

I don't exactly love that line-up, but it gives Hutton, Tryamkin, Horvat, Bae, Rodin, Gaunce and Etem decent roles - which should help us later. All of them won't succeed, but if 3-4 of them can develop into something good (or at least useful) and guys like McCann, Virtanen etc. can develop in the AHL we might have something down the line.

Really can't see that team winning anything though unless we get something special in the next couple of drafts. Might as well improve the odds by being bad.
