Will this be another one of those, win one - lose one, seasons where we wallow in mediocrity again....22 years and counting *sigh*
how did anyone expect anything different with the pitchers that were assembled. AA has done nothing to address the weak spot of the team last year, the bullpen, and did nothing when stroman went down to address the need for a top end guy for the rotation.

Aces aren't available in spring training unless you wanted to give Norris and Hoffman for Hamels.

The rotation was projected to be average before the Stroman injury, and with the elite offence that would have put us in a very good spot.

Unfortunately Stroman went down and everyone else has underperformed. The starters should get better, Hutch, Buehrle won't have a 7 ERA all year, and Dickey won't have a 6 ERA all year.

That was really the end of this season having any chance.

If we're hanging our hat on a guy with 1 year in the bigs with 130 innings pitched with a 3.65ERA we're in trouble.

The problem is that it's not entirely a surprise that everyone else is under-performing.

1. Shocking -- a 40 year old knuckleballer who throws a batting practice fastball and the active leader in innings pitched (over 3100) in a 36 year old Buehrle who throws mid 80s and relies on precision location are struggling.

2. Two 22 year old rookies (one already demoted to AAA) with next to no MLB experience (other than out of the pen) are struggling as starters. No surprise there either.

I don't know how you can say the rotation was projected to be average (~15th) when as a whole since 2009 they have consistently finished in the bottom 3rd (20-30... but usually closer to 30th) in ERA and batting average.
