As mentioned before, if tampa gets good roster player back, they get better immediately, and that's more stiff competition this season

The Canadian financial/ economic crisis has been a known enevitability since at least 2013. I don't think its a coincidence that we've seen the team be pretty conservative in the market with that variable in play.
Eh? To who?

I have a hard time seeing anyone predict Saudi Arabia deciding to say "**** it we're going to overproduce oil by an extreme amount"

It'll be quite important imo to get rid of Cowen's 4.5M for next season when the Loonies could be holding around 60-65 cents on USD. If no one takes him, I'm sure we'll buy him out. That would be a savings of ~ 3M.

Because of all this, I wish the team was more committed to playing more young players, so we could figure out which cheap ELCs we can use for next season and beyond. Hoping that becomes a priority after the deadline.

I'm very curious as to what they do with the cap.

The dollar isn't going anywhere but down with the current oil prices.

Leave the cap as is, and give a compliance buyout (bye bye Greening)

Drop the cap and give two compliance buyouts?

Dunno, very interesting situation the NHL is in, one we haven't really seen before (that I am aware of?)

The Chinese market is starting to crash as well despite their markets trying to artifically stop the bleeding. That could have a catastrophic effect on the Canadian housing market. That will enevitably drop our currency lower and people who have loads of their savings in housing will be burned as well. The biggest hits will be to places like Vancouver and Toronto but teams there won't suffer attendance. The hit will be in small markets like ours where people just won't be able to justify spending on these luxuries.

Calgary is a similar size to us, and even with their markets being devastated (oil obvs), they appear to be doing all right. http://espn.go.com/nhl/attendance

Ottawa employment wise has an amazing buffer in being a government town, people are always moving in and out as jobs open and close in the public service.

Now obviously I'm no specialist in Ottawan finances, but if I had to guess I would think Ottawa would be one of the cities that isn't hit as hard

The bigger concern is the All Star game implications. Is Scott still going? Is he still playing for the Pacific? Who is representing the Coyotes? Who will be the captain of Pacific?

Clearly this means they bump PK off the team and OEL can now go.

I'd be okay if Karlsson gives his spot to Scott. That way he can have a night off from playing 30 minutes a night and not partake in this farce.

You may be right but I don't think we've felt the full impact of this depression yet, especially if our housing bubble bursts (which seems like another evitablilty like the dependancy of oil crippling the economy).

The price of consumer goods are only going to continue to rise. That surely will affect the luxury spending from most. In Ontario, we'll see the costs of energy continue to rise as well.

As far as jobs in Ottawa go, we're definitely going to be better off under the Trudeau government. They're already expanding some government agencies and I know many people who are moving from campaigns and into lobbying Firms that are doing a lot hiring . The problem is a lot of these jobs are fairly low level types of entry positions. These probably aren't the positions that will buying up bunches of tickets and furthermore a lot of these people are coming from around the country who don't necessarily care about the Sens. My guess is Ottawa and Edmonton are hit the hardest by this. Though the Habs and Toronto are certainly going to be hit hard in straight up dollars, just that they'll still be some of the top earners.

I'll be very interested to see what happens with the cap. They've been so foolish with it in the past.

Friedman saying Galchenyuk could be available.

Wouldn't mind going after Galchenyuk, but doubt that those 2 markets would ever trade with each other.

Yeah they would want a massive overpayment by us, don't think we even want to ask what they would want. LOL

I absolutely love galchenyuk. Would love to see turris galchenyuk zib as our centers down the middle.

Not sure where the two parties even start though. They probably want chabot.

Or Zibby? He's the better 2 way player of the two and safer which Thierrien loves.

IF (and it's a huge if) we were to have the money to re-sign Shattenkirk...
I'd be willing to do something like this (but both parts need to happen)

Step 1: Shattenkirk for Hoffman (plus pieces like picks and jr prospects to balance)
Step 2: Drouin+Carle for Prince+Cowen (plus pieces to balance salaries)

Shattenkirk can play left side, which means our PP could be Shattenkirk-Karlsson... and Methot-Shattenkirk could be second pairing, Claesson-Karlsson first pairing (which hasn't been that terrible), and Ceci anchors the third pairing with Wideman/Wiercioch.

Up front Drouin won't entirely replace Hoffman, but since Cameron likes to hassle the Hoff we're going to lose him anyway eventually, and I could see Cowen being sold as a kid who just needs a change of scenery. Plus Prince I think is still an interesting project. It's not like they're using Drouin right now anyway.

Carle is tossed in to maybe hopefully let us send Greening over the other way.
