Nash could have had literally infinity more primary assists in the Washington series alone if St. Louis had any finish/Holtby wasn't a total jerk early in the series.

And I mean, secondary assists absolutely do carry less meaning than primary assists, but it's so predictable that it's suddenly become an issue when Nash has an unfavorable split.

Ryan McDonagh didn't have a primary assist in the playoffs. Discuss.

More significant were his goals than his secondary assists.

Even empty net goals are harder to achieve than secondary assists.

This is all entirely subjective. That's what everyone is getting at just with more sass. On some plays, secondary assists do the work and the primary is a pass anyone on skates can make. On other plays, the its the opposite. On other plays still both passes are masterful. And of course on some, the goal scorer does all the work and two total passengers get points too just because.

This idea that certain points don't count is silly and is only being applied to Nash, and is only being applied to him because people don't want him on the team and are tracing backward trying to find good reasons why trading a 40 goal scorer isn't a bad idea.

Trading him is a huge step back no matter what. If the team had a healthy defense, they'd be in the finals IMO. That was the reason they lost, not Nash's performance and the ridiculous minutia of determining which points do and don't count in hindsight.

His setup on the Stepan GWG in Game 5 against the Caps wasn't a primary assist?

You're missing the point completely Briere is a dinosaur he's washed up you might as well re-sign MSL

Don't worry about Briere, there are published reports saying he's thinking about retiring. If that happens, he's probably going to get a job in the front office of the Flyers.

In any case, the Ranger organization doesn't need him--unlike last summer, there are 4 centers on the roster and a 5th (Lindberg) ready to make the case he's ready to play in the NHL.

Nash didn't have any points at all in 11 of the team's 19 playoff games.

Discuss.

What's there to discuss?
So....

Rick Nash had 2 goals with an impact on a game and 2, maybe 3 primary assists.

Talk about leaving out context when someone says "well he had 14 points".

Passenger. Overpaid. Underwhelming.

Excuse after excuse.

Well reasoned post imo.

Thoughts on trading Nash and signing Beleskey? He had 8 playoff goals in 16 GP.

Playoff proven and brings snarl in his game.

Like I've said all along about dumping Nash for a "playoff scorer," it's easy to forget now, but we have to watch the regular season for SEVEN MONTHS.

You're all going to ****ing adore Nash in the middle of January when it's minus 200,000 degrees outside and there's nothing to do but watch the Rangers, and no 25-game piss-poor-sample-size tournament which people think is life or death.
