Really hope this off-season goes a **** of a lot better than the last. People were saying we overreacted and just about every move or non-move made turned out to be total ****.

Honestly, what could they have done? Other than retaining Stralman over signing Boyle, and signing Glass over keeping Dorsett, there was very little else that could be done.

Ottawa wants a good young player and a pick in one of the first two rounds for Lehner. Talbot is better than Lehner.

Lehner is also much younger than Talbot.

There are 3 things I like about Kessel.

First, he can shoot the puck. Nash is a much better overall player, but we sorely lack someone who can rifle the puck home from literally anywhere. Kessel can do that.

Second hes got speed. Whats this team identity? Fast. Kessel can skate with anyone on our team.

Third he's a right handed shot. This diversifies the PP, gives us more options, and frankly it changes the angles side to side. All our shots seem to come from the right side. left handed shooter on the right side. Give the left side a right handed shooter not named Stepan.

Brassard on one side, Kessel on the other, Stepan in the middle. Boyle & Yandle up top. 3 righties 2 lefties. or split em up, move Stepan to the 2nd PP unit, and Hayes to the top unit.

Lots of options.

Rick Nash is without a doubt the better player. But I'm talking about trying to get Kessel here on a reduced contract. Save about 2 mil on the cap, and maybe make it a larger move to get 2 weapons instead of 1.

With that said, Id have ZERO problems not making that trade either.

It addresses a few needs, while weakening us elsewhere.

I'm a big fan of Rick Nash...nothing ive seen this postseason will change that.

Trading Nash, barring a huge over payment would be a huge mistake.

Clear Cap space from the bloated defense contracts, not from our leading scorer. He needs support, not to be traded.

Isn't that enough?

Retain one of your best defensemen.

Do not sign one of the worst players in the league, ever.

Trading Dorsett was fine, losing Brian Boyle sucked, but speculations aside who knows how much control the Rangers had over that. Boyle's agent tried to play hardball, he lost.

Hayes was a home run.

yeah it woudl be fun to ADD kessel to this team...i just dont think that is practical. like, are the leafs taking Girardi hagelin and something else for Kessel with salary retained? unlikely.

oh dont get me wrong...id move either of those 2 defenseman for Kessel.

i just dont think Toronto would. especially since we know we'd have to have them eat some salary to make the numbers work.

To NYR

Couture, Nieto or (SJ 2nd and NYR 4th traded for Shepp)

To SJ

Nash, Talbot, Boyle.

SJ trades Marleau to NYI for a steep package of prospects and picks to create cap space for this.

Rangers sign Mike Green. 5 years, 6 mill per.

For all his flaws I highly doubt there is any chance the Rangers can deal Nash and not take a big step back.

No deal is replacing 42 goals. If it's about cap implications ok...but it will still be a step back which I don't see the organization doing at this point in their window.

Even if you can get Tatar and Sheahan (doubtful)/Jurco (maybe...but did not have a great season)/Sproul (like him but unproven), the Rangers will be worse next season.

Id rather take a step back for a year and get younger in the process, additionally gaining flexibility with the cap than to give it another go with Nash as our centerpiece in this core group of guys.

That's perfectly valid. I'm only saying I would be shocked if the Rangers actually felt that way.

I wouldn't. Sather has a tendency on radically removing his disappointing acquisitions.

Drury amnestied. Gomer traded. Gaborik traded. Richards amnestied. Redden AHL. These players don't get the length of their contract to prove they are worth it. Once they let Glen down, that is all she wrote.

Gomez trade paved the way for the Rangers to sign Gaborik.

A Nash and Boyle trade paves the way for a Green signing.

The team took a step back this year. I don't think he rides with all of the core moving forward. Nash, Boyle, MSL let him down.

Not quite sure how 42 regular season goals and 14 points in 19 playoff games would let him down.

We will find success by adding to Nash, not breaking him up for 2 lesser players.

This is why trading Talbot/Klein for a young talent like Yakupov (obviously will be more parts to that deal) intrigues me. Low cap hit, could blossom as soon as this season and would add a potential scoring threat aside from Nash/Kreider.

Let's all be honest, our next best goal scorer after Nash is Kreider, who is awesome but inconsistent. The rest of our guys are playmakers or bottom 6/young guys, all of them. Stepan, Brassard, Zucc, Hayes

Also, I forgot how entertaining the off season can be here on HF between here and especially the trade boards.

I don't know man. Green was on Washington's 3rd pairing when the Rangers played them. Is he declining?

Take away Nash's Game 6 four point game and that's 10 points in 18 games. Hardly lighting the world on fire for a guy that had 42 goals in the regular season.

*For the record, I'm not advocating for running Nash out of town, but I think the possibility should be explored and the possible return should be assessed*

.

Hindsight is easy. I know that.
Here is My take what we could have done:

Kept Stralman instead Of Dan Boyle ( he would have cost in The vicinity of 3.6 M @ 4 years in Jan/Feb 2014)
Signed Dan Carcillo instead of Peter Mueller
Kept Derek Dorsett instead of Tanner Glass
Signed Mike Ribeiro instead of Ryan Malone
Signed Daniel Winnik instead of The bum Lombardi
The Stempniak trade comes across as very weird as well

Would have all worked out capwise especially if waivers/demotions were used
We would likely still be have been Enjoying GDT:s right now as well
I had all of this basically in The discussions here at The time for that matter. Not that it matters now.

Spare me the 14 playoff points in 19 playoff games reference. You're not that clueless.

I think you're being awfully clueless.

You certainly haven't convinced me how taking away the team's best offensive weapon helps the playoff scoring issues. As usual, you seem to be hypnotized by the prospect of a big trade rather than actually helping the team.

Of course its disappointing, but the solution seems to be attempting to get a running mate for Nash. One who isn't the corpse of MSL.

Deleting your best offensive player only puts the team further behind the 8-ball when it comes to solving the playoff scoring woes.

You just referenced a statistic where Nash scored 3 countless goals out of 5, and probably contributed more than half of his assists as secondary.

He is not the team's best odefensive weapon come playoff time. In fact, he is probably one of the teams least effective offensive players once the playoffs do start.

I'm interested in trading for younger guys that can potentially fill in the same offensive void eventually. Logan couture is one of those guys. The Rangers take less of a return back from SJ for Talbot and Boyle and do a Couture for Nash swap.

Why it makes sense for SJ? Nash potentially revives Thornton. They are buddies. They complement each other on the ice too. Thornton gets his voice back in the locker room. SJ gets their goalie. TB also gets another vet presence on the blue line.

Couture hurts but that loss is cushioned by gaining Nash, a starting goalie that is young, and a blue liner that is amicable to the fans.

Im going to ignore your proposals because they are virtually rubbish, as usual, but I will address how - despite his scoring woes - Nash still demands attention from the top defensive players on the opposition. Don't discount how his presence opens up opportunities for others.
