Yah, but when you are in your mid late 20's, and the friends you went to school with are getting legit jobs, new cars, wives, kids, houses, and you are getting traded for the third time in a season and have to drive from Ontario, CA to Kalamazoo in two days with all your belongings in your ancient VW Jetta....bank account is in the hundreds...girlfriend is leaving because she can't take it any more... you have a nagging feeling your knee isn't right but don't have the proper medical insurance
to get it looked at by a proper specialist... the thrill wears off.

Sounds a lot like my life, with more driving, but being in better health.

Honestly, in my 20s, I'd have taken the AHL pay without questions (still would) but that ECHL pay is just sad. That's barely more than what I made last year, and I'm a full time student.

AHL can be a decent living, and if you handle the off season right, you can set yourself up for life afterwards. It's also far less brutal than it used to be.

Highly recommend the book Journeyman by Sean Pronger if you guys haven't read it, with regard to all this hockey lifestyle talk.

Yep, thanks Brock. Always an informative insightful read.

Jenys has been productive in his pro career thus far (Czech league and AHL). He and Anas could be a good combo for Iowa.

Don't know if it was mentioned, but Ales Stezka is heading back to Czechia for next season. Long shot grows longer, but plenty of time too.

@CoreyPronman Standouts for me in second game were Charlie McAvoy-BOS, Luke Kunin-MIN and Tage Thompson-STL.

He never mentioned Bellows:popcorn:;).

This is for National Junior evaluation camp.

Bouramman & Eriksson Ek both scored against USA White. Thought Bouramman was the best Swede on the ice, Eriksson Ek wasn't too noticeable but scored on a great shot from the slot.

glad to see some prospects having a little success! say since theres no 17 draft thread yet what do you guys think our biggest need will be next summer? im thinking theres a 60% chance in expansion we lose a D , so i think our need will be a bluechip D man.

I'm thinking best player available. Center/RHD (same as almost every other team) will be the biggest need. Maybe a true sniper (not 5'9").

Yes we have Dumba/Spurgeon as RHD (Brodin can also play right side). Let the Dman progress in the minors, not a 13 game callup (Dumba), and his ELC will be expiring when Spurgeon's contract is up.

And with the 31st pick the Wild select Casey Mittelstadt. (I'm curious to see how high he goes.)

Unfortunately, the only way he'll end up here is if he pulls a reverse Lindros and refuses to play anywhere else, for some reason.

Besides, rest assured that if we *did* draft him, Fletch would end up trading him for a 4th liner in March :sarcasm:

I don't know. Quite a few people are picking us last or 2nd to last in the Central.

I find finishing behind Colorado to be a stretch, but not losing Barrie is key. They're in a similar position to the Wild: can Rantanen, Zadorov, MacKinnon, Grigorenko, Bigras, Duchene... take a step forward?

Not sure Chicago reloaded exactly but they seem to bounce back ok every year.

St. Louis was a Cup contender and should be again.

Dallas is going to be good again, but they have their warts.

Winnipeg has the odd issue of refusing the play their good goalie, but I think Patrik Laine adds more value to a team than Anthony Peluso.

Edit: totally forgot Nashville, but I'm pretty sure they did something good recently to upgrade their squad...

I'm willing to see what the Wild can do, but a poor finish might help this team more than another first-round exit does.

chicago has kinda earned a spot until their knocked off their high horse outta the playoffs. stl losing backes & brower will not be easy but imo their a 100 point team until proven otherwise. nashville is solid & dallas offense is scary. i dont think wpg or col has the experience to blow by the wild. wild would have to self destruct. possible but not very likely with BB!

I'm pretty excited to see how Staal does back at center. Also hoping that Tuch can make a dent in that RW depth. Don't expect Ek to make the team but I hope he plays in the AHL/injury callup.

Just a heads-up that NHL Network is showing some of the WJEC games, starting this afternoon. For US-Sweden, there are plenty of Wild guys there: Greenway, Kunin, Boka, Sadek, Bouramman, JEE.

Hope Boka makes the team, I think he's an underrated prospect.

Sounds like he was on the third pairing in the split squad game the other day. I hope he makes it too, but I think he'll have to make a big impression to climb past some of the other big names at camp.

Thanks for heads-up. Women's Soccer for the Olympics is what I'm watching now. Opening Ceremonies are Friday, but events have already started.
