Really sucks for Sparks. Could have forced a trade for the Leafs to keep him at the NHL level.

Our goaltenders have horrible groins.

Groins are why you really shouldn't pay a goalie all that much. The groin is just not designed to handle the crazy ins and outs of NHL play. And once the groin is gone, nine out of ten of them are done. Jonathan Quick is the only guy that I can recollect coming back and finding a reasonable form again.

Yep! I played goal (only position i played) for about 30 years and had one minor groin injury.

I'm older and haven't played for many years.

It must be the butterfly - well obviously, it is the butterfly style.

When I played, the last resort was going down on your knees as a goalie - EVERYONE WAS STANDUP style goalies.

I remember Tony Esposito looked so revolutionary with his style and I think he was the first early goalie that sort of was butterfly looking.
Now, goalies are in the butterfly constantly and I think the pendulum is going to swing back towards standing up at least a bit more. Teams got to be seeing that when goalies are on their knees constantly you just got to pass cross crease and the goalies are pretty much helpless. Even big goalies can't move their upper body fast enough from a position on their knees.

Also, in this era of butterflies on breakaways and shootouts, I constantly see the goalie flat on his face (stomach) when they get beat on dekes; just seems like a weak position to end up in. I realize the butterfly (while protecting the 5 hole) is incredibly strong for along the ice shots but I still think we'll see a swing back towards more standup style.

Cough cough.. More games for Bernier..more losses... Matthews

I'm always optimistic... especially this early in the season. I thought that with the way Reimer was playing and the fact that Babcock's system seems to be working alright... I thought we still had a chance at the playoffs.

With Reimer and Sparks injured ... and people like Froese, Grabner, Spaling, etc. all in the lineup... we're not looking too good right now. At this point, we're so close to the bottom, we might as well just tank it this year.

Next year, we can potentially add Nylander, Marner, and Stamkos which is obviously going to make us a heck of a lot better. Might as well tank this year and hope for a good turn around when we bring up marlies players.

Did we get any update on how Leivo is doing after? Or do we just have to wait until he comes out from in under this sound proof cone of ours?

Yeah, I haven't seen anything come across twitter on him.

Bozak went to the IR, Lupul as well. Matthias and Kadri haven't been placed there as far as I know.

Pretty soon we'll need a thread for who's healthy not injured.

Kadri skating, shocker, his "injury" appears it will only last 1 game. What a relief :sarcasm:

at least they're trying to hide it.

Lol I was thinking the same thing.. I heard rumors and laughed it off but apparently it was speculated more and more that it was a secret disciplinary suspension... That and we were facing Edmonton so Tankbcan run strong.
