That rule has screwed plenty of teams in the past. Maybe since it finally got Dallas the NFL will change it this offseason because it's stupid.

You mean like the NFL changing the OT rule because Peyton didn't get the ball in a playoff OT? :sarcasm:

Still can't get over how that Bryant catch was ruled incomplete....and I'm not even a Cowboy fan(I despise them). :shakehead

He had possession, took 2-3 steps(which is a football move, imo), and only lost it when his elbow hit the ground as he dove forward for the endzone.

Oh well. Refs suck in any sport. That much we know.

What the refs givith the ref taketh away. Refs jobbed the lions at the benefit of the Cowboys and now the refs jobbed the Cowboys to the benefit of the Packers.

Real story is the refs bungling is intefering to much with these playoff games. You just can't game changing plays being goofed.

Though in this case I believe the refs were right. It's just the rules for what constitutes a catch are stupid. They followed the letter of the rule that shouldn't exist the way it does right now.

Ball clearly hits the ground and comes out because of it, not because of his elbow.

Had Dez just brought the ball in to his body to complete the catch through his fall he would have caught it. Don't get greedy when you have the first down in this situation.

2 feet down is not a be-all end-all for a catch. 2 feet down is a requirement. In this case, the other requirement is that he control the ball through his fall. It was a bang-bang play

Did you notice that his right elbow was already down? <----Down by contact, anyone? :dunno:

Looks like he was extending the ball with his left hand there.

Seems like he had control to me.

Even at the beginning of this gif, he had the ball IN BOTH HANDS and then switched it to his left.

But you're right that he should've just kept the ball to his body and not gotten greedy.

That said, I don't think in his wildest dreams(or nightmares) could he have imagined such a call going against him like this.

As a Cowboys fan, yeah, I'm pissed about it. It's a terrible call. As terrible as the one that went in their favor last week. But good teams don't lose games because of one play or one call. Dallas had a chance to stop GB after the call and couldn't. They had a chance to score another TD before the half and not only didn't, but missed a FG TWICE, AND let GB score thus relinquishing all momentum.

The better team comes out on top. It was the case last week for the Cowboys and it was the case again this week. I do still maintain that NFL refs are by far and away the worst refs in all of sports. I've felt this way forever. They prove week after week that they suck at their job.

But it really is not a terrible call, I wish people would stop calling it one. It might be a terrible rule, but it was the correct call. I was surprised it was allowed to stand in the first place once you saw the ball pop up.

Item 1: Player Going to the Ground.
If a player goes to the ground in the act of catching a pass (with or without contact by an opponent), he must maintain control of the ball throughout the process of contacting the ground, whether in the field of play or the end zone. If he loses control of the ball, and the ball touches the ground before he regains control, the pass is incomplete. If he regains control prior to the ball touching the ground, the pass is complete.

The point of argument is whether or not he had control of the ball before he went down.

In my eyes, he took 3 steps, had both hands on the ball and shifted to his left to extend for the td. He actively tried to get the touchdown after making the catch.

Really though, he should have just tucked it in and taken the down.

I just don't see how people say he didn't have control of the ball. Everything he did there was intentional after reception.

I agree with you and that NFL rule has to be revamped.

It ruined an otherwise entertaining football game.

If it were Cobb and it was overturned, many of you would be talking about how the NFL wanted Dallas to advance.

Unless you make a "football move" which is ridiculous because a football move is something the refs have to decide on the spot. I guess three steps after complete possession and a dive towards the endzone is not a football move. In which case I'd love to see a ton of fumbles be overturned for not making a "football move" first. It's too ambiguous. If they called it no catch on the field I would have been more OK with it, though still would not have liked it.

Exactly. If three steps and a reach doesn't equal a football move, they need to better define that term. I think the NFL tries to get too cute with their rules. It's common sense there. He caught the ball, had possession, dove, lost the ball and got it back. It's really a catch and a fumble recovery. But lets try to complicate it and add random terms like "football move" for which we have no real definition.

That sums it up.

Everyone think if that was called against your team in a NFL playoff game, it would not set well.

I am not a Dallas fan, I am a GB hater though so the call did irk me.

How is anyone that's not a Bear/Viking/Lion fan a Packer hater?

That's actually a good point  I'm rooting for the Packers to win the SB now. I've never had a problem with that team, and the fans I've found to be very knowledgeable and not obnoxious at all.

I've hated GB for a long time, can't stand them.
I also hate the Eagles and the Skins I'm not a NFC East fan.

Over the years I really don't have a favorite NFL team anymore.
At this point, I root for some teams such as (NE/Minny/Dallas/Oakland/KC/Colts/SF) and root against some others such as(GB/Philly/Skins/Pittsburgh/Giants/Bears/Denver).
