He's a stopgap in a rebuilding year. He was soaking up development time from Pageau for the first half of the season. I want Pageau to have the rest of the season to show he belongs. Legwand here next year still blocks a centre from playing. And Smith.

Turris, Zibanejad, Lazar, Pageau, a UFA, a trade, maybe a DaCosta return, even a few games of Dzingel, Grant, even Paul next year would be better

I can't see Da Costa signing with the Sens when he comes over next year. He will sign with somebody else.

Judging by their approach in the off season, I don't think management looked at this year as a rebuilding year.

They missed the playoffs by 5 points last year. That's 2 wins and an OT loss, so it's not entirely outlandish for the team to have expected that they might have been able to make another close run at entering the playoffs.

With Zibanejad's play now, it's easy to forget his awful start. Signing a career 40-50 point power play specialist centre to a very modest short term deal was a GOOD move at the time it was done.

Now that the team has crashed and burned, with the rumours of veteran's being on the block, maybe it's a different story, and they see themselves in a mini rebuild. But you have to look at signings/trades under the context of when they happened.

Yeah, but if you take that type of reasonable approach and put it all in the proper context where is the space for all of the hindsight and slagging management for not playing guys who clearly aren't ready yet?

Must be a rookie poster or something.

I can't see Da Costa cigning with the Sens when he comes over next year. He will sign with somebody else.

Pretty sure Bonk said he has to sign with the sens if he wants to play in the NHL next year. He can just wait out the year in europe if he wants then come back to the NHL with any team after next year though.

If the sens give him a guaranteed nhl spot and sell him on being an NHL player over being a KHL player i could see him back. I think we all know that the sens wont promise DaCosta a nhl spot though

Saying that... Weird that we promised Sekrac a NHL spot when he came over.

Pretty sure we still own his rights. And if he's here we should take a serious look. That said, Lazar, Pageau, DaCosta are all small; Turris is a medium size. We need a Zibanejad plus at some point who can quarterback up front. No UFA fits that bill either.

Behind you, look out
Probably both

Hall has a terrible reputation around Kingston for a reason

He also plays pretty reckless and he's already getting injured pretty often

Like when he handed in an exam with a big signature on it leaving the rest blank and telling the teacher "You might want to keep that, it will be worth money one day."

Or at a house party when the neighbor told the kids on the street to be quiet and he said "I could buy your house with my signing bonus." He wasn't even drafted at that point.

Hahahahhahaa, I just logged in to say this. My boy told me about this when he was playing in the OHL.

However, I don't see what's wrong with the guy's attitude if he plays 100% every game and he's a top 5 winger who's stuck in Edmonton.

Similar to Kane when he was younger, imo.

Either way, I want Hall/O'Reilly.

....yuck.

If that stuff is indeed true, I don't want the kid. He's a great candidate to get Lindrosed out of the league soon anyways.

Big pass.

is there anything more to the "attitude" rumours than a couple of arrogant comments when the kid was 17?

With Johnson out 8 weeks, Avs will be looking to stabilize their D. Thay are just out of the last wildcard so need to consider their season. Wiercioch was a star in University out there.

Something around Lehner, Wiercioch and Cowen for O'Reilly and Pikard

Probably want Methot instead of Cowen

I am just telling you the stories I know from living in Kingston.

I don't care one way or the other about it because I know we will not be getting him.

They're still hilarious regardless, love hearing those behind the scenes stories.

His skill and creativity certainly couldn't hurt the PP.

We don't really have a playmaker of Da Costa's skill. He has looked pretty efficient playmaking from down low/ the corner at times (kind of like Spezza did) and that certainly opened up some lanes for Karlsson.

Lots of players are complete tools. Apparently Ryan Smith would go out to the bar with the other players after games, and (as the story goes) his favourite pickup line was "want to **** a millionaire?" And this was the guy they brought back for leadership.

Could care less about how some of these players handle themselves off the ice. All the stories I have heard about Hall confirm he's cocky and likes to party, but that should have nothing to do with him as a player. On the ice he plays hard and positively impacts his team night in and night out.

Boston traded Seguin because he likes to party and now that trade will go down as one of the worst of the past decade. It would be absolutely foolish to turn down a chance to acquire a similarly talented player for the same reasons.

He's got a certain type of personality and you want don't want too much clashing in the dressing room

The problem isn't his attitude, it's "does it fit with the rest of the team's"?

Seguin didn't mesh with the rest of the Bruins and it led to problems in the dressing room: wether justified or not, once you've officially got problems, you need to deal with them

Also in the Seguin trade both teams got what they wanted: it was a win-win. Unfortunately Eriksson got concussed but that's hardly managerial oversight... Plus Eriksson has been playing a lot better recently

People who consider the trade as "the worst trade of the decade" don't understand how to evaluate trades. Those are people who think the Thornton to San Jose was a bad trade and they completely miss the point.

I thought this was the last season we owned his rights and he reaches UFA status this summer

Just saw the video of Hall getting hit with the puck... Seemed like a charliehorse more than anything. I'm kind of skeptical he's actually hurt.
