From watching him play - based on what I've read vs. what I've actually seen of him, I'm not "wowed" by his two way play. To me, he's appeared a bit one dimensional and not as defensively aware as he could be.

I feel the same way about him as well. I still think he will go in the 1st round, but I'm not really hoping the Flames take him.

I like what he brings to the table, I know he has put the complete package together as of yet but you can see he has the potential to be a complete dman in the NHL, I think he would be a good grab in the 20ish range.

Morrissey actually has one of the best two way games of any defensemen in the draft in my opinion.
The only knock on him is his size and strength. He is very good positionally and is actually quite physical as well.

I really like him. I thought he was the best defensemen in the U18 tournament last month.

Updated with the Penguins win.

There seems to be a decent amount of confusion when it comes to the order of the draft picks for teams that are in the post season. So I am going to try to keep this thread updated with each elimination. I will list where the picks sit currently, the highest pick possible for each team and lowest pick possible for all eliminated teams.

Let us start with what we actually know:
  1. Colorado Avalance (Won draft lottery)
  2. Florida Panthers
  3. Tampa Bay Lightning
  4. Nashville Predators
  5. Carolina Hurricanes
  6. Calgary Flames
  7. Edmonton Oilers
  8. Buffalo Sabres
  9. New Jersey Devils (Must forfeit 1st round pick in 2013 or 2014 due to cap circumvention)
  10. Dallas Stars
  11. Philadelphia Flyers
  12. Phoenix Coyotes
  13. Winnipeg Jets
  14. Columbus Blue Jackets
  15. New York Islanders
  16. Minnesota Wild (Traded to Buffalo Sabres)
  17. Ottawa Senators

In the works.

  • Detroit Red Wings
    • Highest - 18
    • Lowest - 30
  • New York Rangers (Traded to Columbus Blue Jackets)
    • Highest - 18
    • Lowest - 30
  • San Jose Sharks
    • Highest - 18
    • Lowest - 30
  • Toronto Maple Leafs
    • Highest - 18
    • Lowest - 21
  • Los Angeles Kings (Traded to Columbus Blue Jackets)
    • Highest - 19
    • Lowest - 30
  • St. Louis Blues (Traded to Calgary Flames)
    • Highest - 20
    • Lowest - 22
  • Boston Bruins (Traded to Dallas Stars if Bruins reach East Finals)
    • Highest - 21
    • Lowest - 30
  • Washington Capitals
    • Highest - 22
    • Lowest - 24
  • Vancouver Canucks
    • Highest - 22
    • Lowest - 24
  • Montreal Canadiens
    • Highest - 23
    • Lowest - 25
  • Anaheim Ducks
    • Highest - 24
    • Lowest - 26
  • Pittsburgh Penguins (Traded to Calgary Flames)
    • Highest - 27
    • Lowest - 30
  • Chicago Blackhawks
    • Highest - 26
    • Lowest - 30

Picks set by playoff achievement.
27 ) Conference Finalist
28 ) Conference Finalist
29 ) Stanley Cup Finalist
30 ) Stanley Cup Champion

Best possible scenario for the St. Louis Blues pick:

If none of Chicago, Pittsburgh or Boston reach the third round, then the St. Louis will draft 19th overall.

Best possible scenario for the Pittsburgh Penguins pick:

If the Penguins are eliminated in round 1 or 2 and Chicago also fails to reach the third round, then the Pittsburgh pick will be 25th overall.

how is morrissey not in your top 30

There are about 40 guys this year who could arguably be in the first round, in that 20-30 range, there are probably about 20 guys who could create a log jam in that area. Generally there's very little cross over in the except in the 25-30 range or when teams go full R-tard (*cough Calgary*) and draft someone completely off the board.

I personally like Morrissey and think that his play at the last tournament was very high tier. I believe he has the tools to become a very solid D-man in the league with some polish.

Still haven't made my list, because I don't know the final rankings of the teams, but I suspect he will be on the list, or perhaps not.

Morrissey and Heatherington were Canada's U18's best defencemen by far.

Bowey and Morin played well, but didn't stand out as much. The two mentioned above were so poised and sound.

Abbotsford, re: your most recent update - under LA, you have "Highest - 27 Lowest - 22", they just need to be reversed. Nothing big but I'm OCD about stuff so it stuck out to me. :)

That 2nd rounder to Montreal looks brutal now.

Hopefully by next season Ramo doesn't make it look as bad :(

If Ramo does well and if we were to ever trade him for anything (if one of our other goalies steps up/develops), hopefully we get something of similar value and long term it won't be painful.

reversed would still be wrong. Highest would be 27th and lowest would be 30th
