I still can't get over what a stupid move it was for the devils not to forfeit their pick last year. Now that they have a top 10 pick this year it even makes it worse.

I'm a little confused. I thought that for playoff teams, the teams were ordered by where they exit the playoffs, with the tie-breaker being regular season points.

By that logic, Vancouver should be picking in the top 8 of the bottom 16, shouldn't they?

EDIT: I read on wikipedia that division winners kind of throw a wrench in things. My mistake.

Yeah and if the division winners don't make it to the Conference Finals, it throws another wrench into it - if a non division winner makes it to the Conf. Finals, all the eliminated playoff teams basically get bumped up a draft spot. Or something.

Haha, I do my best to kill off the weak as quickly as possible

I am assuming the pink is the biggest problem, I thought it would be less bright than it is. Maybe I will look into a darker colour for the next update.

After Montreal's elimination

Let us start with what we actually know:
1 ) Colorado Avalance (Won draft lottery)
2 ) Florida Panthers
3 ) Tampa Bay Lightning
4 ) Nashville Predators
5 ) Carolina Hurricanes
6 ) Calgary Flames
7 ) Edmonton Oilers
8 ) Buffalo Sabres
9 ) New Jersey Devils (Must forfeit 1st round pick in 2013 or 2014 due to cap circumvention)
10 ) Dallas Stars
11 ) Philadelphia Flyers
12 ) Phoenix Coyotes
13 ) Winnipeg Jets
14 ) Columbus Blue Jackets

and the part of the order that is in development:
15 ) New York Islanders : Highest - 15th Lowest - 30th
16 ) Minnestoa Wild (Traded to Buffalo Sabres) : Highest - 15th Lowest - 30th
17 ) Ottawa Senators : Highest - 15th Lowest - 30th
18 ) Detroit Red Wings : Highest - 15th Lowest - 30th
19 ) New York Rangers (Traded to Columbus Blue Jackets) : Highest - 15th Lowest - 30th
20 ) San Jose Sharks : Highest - 16th Lowest - 30th
21 ) Toronto Maple Leafs : Highest - 17th Lowest - 30th
22 ) Los Angeles Kings (Traded to Columbus Blue Jackets) : Highest - 18th Lowest - 30th
23 ) St. Louis Blues (Traded to Calgary Flames) : Highest - 19th Lowest - 30th
24 ) Boston Bruins (Traded to Dallas Stars if Bruins reach East Finals) : Highest - 20th Lowest - 30th
25 ) Washington Capitals : Highest - 21st Lowest - 30th
26 ) X - Vancouver Canucks : Highest - 22nd Lowest - 25th
27 ) X - Montreal Canadiens : Highest - 23rd Lowest - 26th
28 ) Anaheim Ducks : Highest - 24th Lowest - 30th
29 ) Pittsburgh Penguins (Traded to Calgary Flames) : Highest - 25th Lowest - 30th

Calgary
Monahan/Lindholm
Lazar
Morrisey

I don't think Morrisey will be around that late. If we have a chance at him it will be with the St.Louis pick. I think Calgary should get Morin with the pens pick. Even though he is projected as a 2nd rounder a 6'7" dman that can skate and is out right nasty is something this team needs.

I think I remember reading somewhere that Lou is keeping the 1st this year.

Yeah, I heard that too. NJ missing the playoffs + deep draft this year makes it the common sense decision. Could backfire if they don't improve next year, though.

From what I remember, they meant to forfeit the pick last year but submitted the paperwork too late. Pretty rare oops from Lou if true.

It was speculated the Devils thought they had 48 hours after the Stanley Cup Finals and were still in the process of deciding but the league closed the window after 24 hours.

It was a big mistake though. Last years draft was very weak too.

So dose that mean the last pick in the 1st round will be a 29th making everyone below new fersey move up a spot and Stlouis pick best cas scenarion can be an 18th pick not 19th

I think I remember reading somewhere that Lou is keeping the 1st this year.

Is it possible for them to trade their pick (which is a good pick) down with a team with a worse pick, and forfeit that pick? Or does it have to be their own first?

So does that mean the last pick in the 1st round will be a 29th making everyone below new jersey moves up a spot and Stlouis' pick best case scenario can be 18th pick not 19th

It's unlikely that they do that this year as the draft will be in New Jersey and their expectation for next season is to be in the playoff race (Not have a top 10 pick).

If they did decide to forfeit their pick then yes every pick in the draft simply slides up one spot and round 1 ends at 29.
