I know this is off topic but did you keep Sim out of your rankings because you didn't know if he was coming to the OHL? Or did he not make the cut for your top 60?

Diddn’t make the cutoff.
He would probably be in the next tier of kids. But his size, paired with his brothers limited success in the league after playing in the same league gave me pause.
I did highlight him in Brocks annual mock draft though, this is what I said:
Brother of London Knights forward Landon Sim; Lane is taking a similar path to the OHL as his brother. He played his hockey in Nova Scotia this year but because his father, Jon Sim played 4 years in the OHL - it allowed Lane the opportunity to play in the OHL. Lane is an excellent skater, he moves well in all 4 directions. He is a shifty player that consistently has his feet moving - he isn’t afraid to be physical and shows flashes of a high end skill set. At the same age, Lane is probably better than his brother.
So, Martin and Hayes, not happy with that? Everyone knows what Martin is.
Hayes has great bloodlines, both brothers 40 goal scorers.

I think Martin was an obvious pick - don’t think they deserve praise for an obvious selection.
I think Hayes went 2-3 rounds too soon. In my opinion, he is clearly the third best of the brothers and the Soo passed up on some really good players to select him.
Fun first 3 rounds. Lots of interesting selections. Can’t imagine anybody’s surprised London took a chance on Moore. Really like Flint’s picks so far. They kinda reached on Martin in my opinion but I like the player. Really like what Guelph & Mississauga have done too. Surprised Stark & Lam fell so far but great picks by Kitchener. Anyone know if there was a reason for this, such as NCAA intentions?

and i‘ll happily change my mind if he comes out swinging in the OHL. I am not afraid to change my opinion, and admit I was wrong.

Fine, in your opinion, but they have Martin, its not whether they should deserve praise for selecting him but they improve their team as much as anyone by adding him. As in any trade, the team with the best player wins. Schaefer and Martin were deemed the best two players at draft time by many. So if determining who had a good draft, when you get one of the top two or 3 players, I think you did well.
Anyways, that's it.
I really think Kingston knocked it out of the park on Day 1. Hopkins has future captain written all over him, and I'm shocked Weir fell that far to 42nd overall. Those are obviously massive gets, and Xander Velliaris needs some seasoning but that could be a big pick as well at 45th overall.

Lane has informed teams he won’t play in the OHL next season. What that means is anyone’s guess, but would be the prime reason why he didn’t get selected on day 1.
I know that we all knew about Czata going 5th to Niagara, but was there really no one better they could have gotten? I mean they ended up picking Roobroeck who has been quite clear about reporting-or has he? But why Czata?

I would assume they did their homework on both picks to make sure both were reporting. Roobroeck at the OHL HQ and Czata at the Meridian Centre both sporting IceDogs jerseys tonight. Can't be unhappy with the picks if both are on the roster next season. Hopefully this ends the "Niagara = tire fire". Not like Czata was SUPER off the board, but of course politics were somewhat involved. Finally a happy day under new management, I'm just enjoying it

I really liked it. Whitehead and Yanni are high upside kids - Dietsch is a very aolid defender and Brzustewicz is a talented offensive blueliner.

And your crystal ball for Ottawa with the first pick of day 2? I'm thinking Chase Hull...local kid with some size which we need up front?

Hull is one of the top kids not selected yet, so it would make sense. Difficult to say.

I'm happy to chime in on Ottawa! I watched Henrey a decent amount when he was with Honeybaked in the younger years. He was a forward then and had an above average shot as a young kid. Big kid early also. I haven't seen him much since he left that program, but have to assume he's only improved.
Whitehead I have not seen.
Dietsch to me was the best D on STA. Very solid, all around D. Won't wow you with any one skill, and likely isn't a PP specialist, but is a leader and doesn't need the limelight. Very physical. Does the little things to win vs some of the other D in the draft who want to put up points and couldn't care less about +/-.
Yanni could possibly end up being the best of 4 picks. Steal where they got him. Many nights he was JRC's best player and given the instability of the JRC coaching staff this year, it could not have been an easy place for Yanni to play. I've heard his family is very committed to Yanni's hockey and will do whatever it takes for his success. The player has improved a lot over the years, specifically his skating. I'd be surprised if Yanni wasn't JRC's leading scorer over the past two seasons, overall. Great pick.

IceDogs need help everywhere on the ice at this point. They selected a big centre that generates offence, a good two way forward and a solid defenceman. Still trying to understand the third round selection of Haydon Reid when there are still some very solid d-men not drafted. We are losing 3 overage d-men this year. The only thing that I see that can help in that regard is if we trade Rosenzweig for an overage d-man.I would assume they did their homework on both picks to make sure both were reporting. Wolves, Cleveland US LD, I think in the 7th. A Big Nasty young man who is about to be drafted into NHL currently ranked #65. If this kid comes north and play with fellow Americans Mania and Musty, should be special.
Prior to that pick also luv LD Jackson a second rounder selection out of Barrie. Future Captain material.

I felt like the Hounds did a good job in the later rounds. Brady Smith in the 5th round, John Collins-Williams in the 9th and Cullum Mainville in the 12th.
Have heard positive about Charron as well
