We all know that Sean Monahan will be traded before 8 march. The only question it's when and where.

It's a really good chance that Habs will get a 1st round pick.

If they can do that, they will have traded considerations futures for 2 1st round picks.

Best trade in history of NHL?
No.
With Lafleur and fellow Quebecer Marcel Dionne among the top prospects in the 1971 NHL Amateur Draft, the Montreal Canadiens' general manager, Sam Pollock, was keen to find a way to trade to obtain one of the top two picks. He persuaded California Golden Seals owner Charlie Finley to trade the Seals' 1971 first-round pick and François Lacombe in return for Montreal's 1970 first-round pick and veteran Ernie Hicke. Oakland finished last, leaving Montreal with the first overall pick. Pollock hesitated between Lafleur and Dionne, but chose Lafleur with the first draft choice

Now that was one of the best trade if not the best every made..

The answer is NO because it is 2 trades not one.

Montreal got fantastic value from Monahan. Great piece of business, still need to make those draft picks hit or they become worthless.

MTL got great value but they have been poor at drafting and developing

They need to still hit on the 1sts otherwise the trade becomes a waste of time
I mean it's been pretty solid in recent years.

2019: Caufield at 15 is a steal, Struble has been a very good surprise who looks like he's going to be a great 3rd pairing dman, and RHP is already a good bottom 6 player.
2020: Guhle at 16 is a steal, Farrell was one of the best players in the NCAA last year even though I don't think he amounts to much, and Dobes has been very good in the AHL after a brutal start
2021: Mailloux is having a phenomenal start in the AHL, and Roy is our best forward prospect
2022: Slafkovsky has looked so much better than what his stats show, and Hutson is one of the best defensemen prospects in hockey

Little too early for 2023 and of course not all of these players will pan out, but it's looking way better than 2009-2018 where we hit on one 1st rounder.

Not thrilled with the monahan to jets trade but I don't hate it. Jets get the much needed depth at the cost of a late 1st round pick. You can't really speculate much on how a late 1st will pan out. More likely that it doesn't turn into a franchise changing player but again, it's speculation.
