And that's a wrap! Thanks for playing this year everybody and congrats to our winner GrandLarseny! I hope to see you all again next... wait, what's that? Oh, there are still nine days left?! Hmm... okay, apparently this pool is actually still ongoing. It just SEEMS out of reach after GL picked up a whopping 15 points to add to yesterday's 12 for a seemingly impossible 27 points in just two days of play! I'm guessing this is a pool record for this point in the tourney, but I'll have to research that fact. FightingSioux may be best positioned to mount a challenge with a second straight strong day as well, with 9 points today to sit a still surmountable 8 points out of first. Everybody else has a LOT of work to do. Canad4Gold is third with 13, but coming off of a pretty unproductive day, as are the majority of people in this pool. Khabby and Tomsburninghat have been going stride for stride so far, both with 4 yesterday and a decent 7 today. Tom can thank Macklin Celebrini for singlehandedly rescuing his team from the basement. Statsy is also in at 11 points while Christien and WTK have a second straight day of struggles. If they are going to challenge for first, they are definitely going to have to... **come back and insert idea here when I think of it**.

Here are today's shocking numbers:

GrandLarseny- 15 pts
FightingSioux- 9 pts
Tomsburninghat- 7 pts
Khabby- 7 pts
Statsy- 4 pts
Canada4Gold- 3 pts
Christien- 3 pts
WeThreeKings- 3 pts

I've had a dream start (special shoutout to WeThreeKings for the early favorite call!) but I knew it wasn't locked down just yet. Massive game for the USA and FightingSioux's really right back in the hunt. Hopefully my Swedes can do a some damage to mitigate that big comeback but Germany's not looking like an easy blowout right now.

Also looks like Kulich picked up an extra apple last game to give him 5 points now.

Just a couple of games today, but still some points were put up with a couple of routs. FightingSioux does manage to cut into the lead that GrandLarseny had built up, with a big day from his American players, particularly Nazar (4) and Brindley (3). C4G gets some points from Snuggerud to hang on to third with Khabby and Statsy just behind on the strength of identical 6 point days. Tom and Christien fall a bit further behind while WTK continues to scuffle, just now hitting double digits. It's a full four game slate tomorrow, and I may not be able to update as I'm going back to work for a couple of days, but then I'm on vacation, so the the rest of the updates should be timely.

Today's numbers:

FightingSioux- 8 pts
Statsy- 6 pts
Khabby- 6 pts
Canada4Gold- 5 pts
Christien- 4 pts
GrandLarseny- 3 pts
WeThreeKings- 3 pts
Tomsburninghat- 2 pts

Thank god for today and MBN and Solberg getting 4 pts between them.. as I heard the devastating news that the relegation round is a single game now and not the best of 3 I was banking on when I chose them.

It's a double update today as we add up the totals from Day 4 and 5... although Day 5 gave us a grand total of 1 POINT (Hooray!). GrandLarseny has cooled off a bit but still hangs onto a solid 7 point gap over FightingSioux who struggled to just two points. Statsy had a big day with 8 (and could've had more but for a mystery illness to Trey Augustine.), and now pulls into podium position at third. It's a good battle just behind that with C4G, and the big winner of this last update, WeThreeKings. More than doubling his output from the first three days, WTK puts up an impressive 12, including the only point from Day 5. Christien had a solid 7, including yet another shutout from Hugo Havelid. Tom finally gets some production form a previously underperforminf Dalibor Dvorsky, who explodes with a four point game. However, he remains just one point out of the basement, now held by Khabby, whose Canada-heavy team got slaughtered, combining for just a single point in the two days. It's another big four gamer tomorrow as we head to the final day of the preliminary round.

Days 4 +5:

WeThreeKings- 12 pts
Statsy- 8 pts
Christien- 7 pts
Tomsburninghat- 6 pts
GrandLarseny- 5 pts
Canada4Gold- 4 pts
FightingSioux- 2 pts

We absolutely do NOT need that. Fowler actually wasn't that great in that game and they probably win in regulation with Augustine. Word is he's feeling better and he's back in the nets today. :thumbu:

Yeah, okay there buddy. :loony:

Fowler is the better goalie, only reason they've given Augustine the slight edge is his previous experience.

USA has a long history of making dumb roster decisions that cost them the WJCs so i guess we will see if they do the same here.

As the preliminary round comes to a close, it was a productive day for most, with 5 of our 8 entrants picking up double digit point totals. The podium remains static with GrandLarseny, FightingSioux, and Statsy all picking up 10 points. WeThreeKings also matches that total, good enough to move up to 4th and remain within striking distance. The biggest day belonged to Khabby with 13, who jumps from the bottom of the standings to the heart of the action. The last three spots feature the single digit performers from today who are all running out of time and will need things to go their way on QF day. The big loser of the day is Canada4Gold, who struggled to just four points while the rest of the group had a stat day, pushing him to last place. It's an off day tomorrow, then the following day we have the Quarterfinals where we will separate the contenders from the pretenders. Oh, and one more thing...
Happy New Year everybody!

With the off day, I decided to do an audit of the scoring. Single assists have now been added for FightingSioux (Gabe Perreault), Khabby (Cutter Gauthier), Statsy (Rutger McGroarty), and WeThreeKings (Noah Ostlund)... but NOT for Jacob Fowler. Sorry, WTK, they must have changed that apple to someone else.

Here are the revised standings:

Well, well, well... what a race this has become! What once seemed like a foregone conclusion has now become a compelling battle. Thanks goes out to GrandLarseny for giving us all a chance by trying to coast to the finish line. They picked up just a couple of points in the QF, but still maintains a pool lead of four points over FightingSioux and now Khabby, who had a huge 12 point outing yesterday to charge up the standings. Statsy has been edged off the podium for the moment, but also has WeThreeKings right on his heels. With five competitors all in the 40's, the last two days of competition are going to prove pretty thrilling. The next tier of competitors have Canada4Gold, whose solid 8 point day takes him out of the basement, followed closely by Tomsburninghat. Christien is struggling to the finish line, and already battling injuries, was able to pick up goalie W yesterday, but absolutely nothing from his skaters. Semifinals are up next, as well as a single game relegation that WTK will be keeping a close eye on.

Yesterday's Totals:

Khabby- 12 pts
WeThreeKings- 8 pts
Canada4Gold- 8 pts
Statsy- 7 pts
Tomsburninghat- 5 pts

Oh boy, is this getting interesting! The semifinals are in the books (as is the relegation game) and this tournament is now down to just two games remaining. GrandLarseny continues to hold a lead, though it's now Statsy that's closest in the chase, down by three points. The standings are a little congested at the top with FightingSioux just a point behind, followed by WeThreeKings a point behind them. But wait... there's more! Khabby is one back of WTK and despite being in 5th, is still very much in striking distance. The rest are seemingly out of runway, but the battle to leave the basement is another thing that hangs in the balance on the final day. WTK lost their two Norwegian players, but everybody else keeps their remaining players for the final push. This has surprisingly turned into one helluva pool and sets us up for a thrilling climax tomorrow. Best of luck to all!
