Assist for Vilen in 2-1 win over Sweden in U20 tournament. As with Mukhmadullin, his play should be taken with a grain of salt since this tournament featured mostly second tier prospects.

But it is a good start to the season and provides a shot at cracking the roster for the World Juniors.

Not going to the U20 this year is disappointing for sure, particularly since he plays a lot of minutes in Liiga.

He’s a 2003 birthday so he can go next year though.

Not overly exciting but seems like a guy who may have some depth potential in a few years or more. Always nice to have young dmen in Utica to watch especially if guys like Bahl and Okhotiuk graduate.

Vilen's likely scenario is a sort of White role, where he's a solid AHL defender who can be called up to the big club in a pinch to play some steady defense. His upside is a solid, stay-at-home 3rd pairing LD.

My bad. I knew we had signed him and with that was thinking he was playing in Utica for some reason.

A lot of "his skating is not as bad as advertised" comments after the scrimmage for Vilen, Salminen, Holtz..

Which is great, but the prospect camp tempo is far and away from AHL level, not to mention NHL. Let's see how he does when he has to defend someone like Dylan Larkin or when he has less than 3 seconds to get the puck out of the dzone.

He has been decent for a mid round pick. He’s a LD and we seem to be pretty stocked at that position for the future. It’s going to take a bit for him to get to the NHL level someday soon. I hope he keeps improving and makes it.

Already signed to an entry level contract and from all accounts, had a terrific training camp this season. We will get a good look at him at the WJC but after his hot start, it is starting to look like NJ may have gotten a decent prospect at this stage....another 5th rounder.

To me, Vilen was the surprise at the prospects camp. I really liked his game and hadn't realized he was this mobile and active offensively. I really liked his game. Would be really cool to get another good prospect from the later rounds.
