I thought Zykov played RW? Looks like Peters is setting him for failure. Hopefully we can at least see him shine on the PP?

I'd be interested to see him play on a line with Lindy at some point. I for some reason can just imagine Zykovs net front precense meshing well with Lindy's play making abilities.

I was going to say "Yeah, replace Stempniak with Zykov!", but then that'd be Skinner-Ryan-Zykov and I had flashbacks to the year the 'Canes only NHL defender was a 20 something Justin Faulk...

Well that explains it. It’s not Peters getting it wrong and setting him up for failure by making Zykov play his wrong side, it’s Peters doing him a solid and having PDG stay on the wrong side to help Zykov.

Some of you guys with the Peters hate....

And, he may not play a ton, but he's got a better chance of being successful with Rask than with Ryan. That's the thing about having multiple fourth-line centers. You might get lucky.

Eh, I could see playing him more as a win-win for us, even if all he does is lose-lose. If he plays well, then maybe he's turned the corner and will be the #1 we need next fall. If he continues to blow chunks, then we know he'll be the #2 guy next season.

From what I've seen from Darling, even when he wins, he looks awful. So I'm not sure that getting a few "W"s is going to help anything. If anything, it may give us a false sense of him getting his act together. He just looks awful in net. He overplays everything. He's terrible playing the puck. He has no rebound control. It's like the bar is so low for goaltending right now, that we don't even care about all this, as long as he stops something. But this is the NHL. We should be able to expect more. And it's obvious when Cam plays that Darling is nowhere near that level, and Ward is barely NHL caliber.

And I'd trade rosters with them in a heartbeat.

Man, that's a pretty crazy way to think about it. Both teams on a Cinderella run, both completely guttered out until the present day.

That's been my view as well. He has never looked comfortable in net. I remember even after his first game noticing it (as did others) and we "hopefully" chalked it up to nerves.

No doubt; but that wasn't the point of my post.

The long list of Canes "non-Ward" goalies.

John Graham
Michael Leighton
Justin Peters
Manny Legace
Brian Boucher
Dan Ellis
Anton Khudobin
Eddie Lack
Scott Darling

Of those, only 3 have played at least 10 games in a season and put up a .905 or better SV% in those seasons: Khudobin: .926, Peters: .919 (in the same season); Ellis: .906

For how bad Eddie "Make a f***ing save" Lack was, he put up .901 and .902 SV% in his two back-up season compared to Darling's .889. The more things change, the more they stay the same.

Outside of McDavid and Draisatl our roster is a complete mess. Our winger depth is probably the worst in the league, our defense is unimpressive and our goaltending has been red lights all year.
