but but but he traded that softie Danton Heinen for Big Bad Nick Ritchie.

Sweeney is awful. Those Marchand and Pastrnak deals are an albatross
Nice that you love him, I think he sucks, he can't draft, can't improve the team during the season, can't sign impactful free agents and has no real plan for the forwards in two or three years. But yay he signed a couple good contracts, well worth how terrible he is at everything else.

I'm torn here

On the one hand it hurts to see Chara sign with another team (especially a team in the same division) for just over league minimum. I would have preferred he return at that salary in a limited roll. He was effective on the PK.

On the other I don't trust that Cassidy would have used him in the same manner that management (and I) would have wanted. If Chara was re-signed Cassidy would have had him playing top pairing. Coaches love their vets.

Chara is likely (no guarantee ) gonna struggle with such a condensed calendar. An then come the PO's.

Chara would have been effective if he played about 35/40 games. No back to back, third pairing, PK specialist. He would be helpful when he heavier teams come to town. He's lost a lot of his bite but he still has the snarl and if your dumb enough to challenge him, he still has the bite too. He's just less likely to be the instigator. Less likely to lay that heavy hit on you less likely......................................

I didn't think Chara was coming back but I expected him to sign for a lot more than that. At that cost the Bruins should have brought him back.

I don't think he's getting a major roll in Washington. I've been wrong before.............more times than I care to count.

Damn. I wonder how Bergeron, Krejci, Marchand and Rask feel about Chara and Krug leaving the way they have.
They see the writing on the wall. Funny how Chara chose the team/city that Cassidy is remembered in as a disaster of a coach. IMO he chose Washington to take part in the beatings by Ovi and company that they're gonna hand the Bruins 8 times this upcoming season. WHO will be Chara's first victim?

Not sure why people keep being up Kevan Miller? Kevan Miller is a depth guy. Someone who will sit in the press box for most games and no one will be insulted. We weren’t going to sign Chara to have him sit out most games. That would be even more insulting.

It was time to move on.
You're an account manager and you don't understand why??

People try to convince themselves that the league is moving away from physicality when it couldn't be further from the truth. Blues were a nasty team, Tampa went and got depth that would make them tougher, Washington has always been a team that have a physical element to their game. Those are the last 3 cup champs, if being a team of good little boys who skate fast and play pure hockey is what got you success in the league then Toronto might actually win a playoff series.
Definitely. You need some physical guys to win the Cup. As I said a week or two ago in why I thought the Bs should bring Z back, this season is going to rely more on coaching than during a normal season. Depth is going to play a big role. With things so compacted, coaches will need to figure out a good system of rotating players in and out of the lineup when need be, and do it in a manner that responds effectively to matchups. I wouldn't be shocked at all to see more than a couple coaches rolling with 7 D more than normal. My argument for keeping Z is that the Bs will need his stability and strength. I love the young guys, no question, but are they ready to handle the physicality of the compacted schedule this season? These are not big mature strong guys for the most part. Additionally, this D as a whole is not a very big and strong D. I felt that having a big strong dude like Z would be important this season on a young D without much size. There would be ways to use him effectively, and still allow him to get meaningful minutes. So the Bs have lost their PP quarterback and a core guy, as well as their best PK D and biggest physical presence and a core guy. I was fine with Krug going since I assumed his production could be made up for by signing a legit scoring 2RW, which did not happen. I am not fine with Z going because this team already lacked physical presence needed to win a Cup as it stood with Z on the team, and now they have even less of that. Injuries are going to happen. This is not a video game where you compile a roster that looks good on paper, then everything goes swimmingly because you have the injury setting turned to "off." There will need to be depth. The Bs have some great players and a good enough roster to be in the upper half of the NHL, but there are at least several teams that will eat the Bs for lunch in the playoffs. It would be nice if they could play Carolina in all 4 rounds, but they can't.

I must admit I am irrationally upset at this, might be time to check in with the ol’ therapist lmao

Regardless of whether you agree with the move or not this is heartbreaking to see the end of the road for Z here. What an incredible ride it’s been an all time Bruin great and hall of famer. Sucks. It’s literally the he perfect end to this shit year

Now show me the player with the skating and puck handling ability of Chara on each of those teams

Half of Tampa's defense! St Louis had Edmunson and a few other grenade tossers. Washington had one or two as well. They do still have a role, in shutting down premier offensive talent.

The NHL is transitioning to skating three zone defensemen but it will be a few more generations before every team has six of them.
