Why would they rebuild

They have 8+ D under 25 that many were foundations of a Cup Finals run and Follow up President Trophy

Rask has a few years left and Swayman is in the handful of best college goalies I’ve ever seen

Pastrnak is 24 and basically a young Guy LaFleur and Marchand is a world class left winger with a good 3 or so years of production at elite level ~DeBrusk I have high hopes for and even Bjork and Kase.

Studnicka, Coyle, Beecher, Frederic ~ they been drafting and trading for size down the middle

Hockey’s my third sport but that’s only because I’m so phenomenal at the other two sports

rebuild? Lol

I could take this team and consistently put up 100 point seasons and compete and win Cups using 90% of this roster signed contracts

rebuild:nod:

After this season, Rask and Krejci's contracts are up. Could lose both of them. Don't see Chara playing then. I'm not as high on Debrusk or Bjork or Kase or Fredrick or Beecher as you are. Won't go for the Guy Lafleur bait.

That said, if the Bruins have a successful short season and playoffs, perhaps the rebuild would not be called for. Depends on how that success is achieved.

I still expect him to sit out most of the year, then sign and join the team at the deadline and become a PK minute eating specialist for the playoff run.

That's what I think they want him to do and I've been thinking it for awhile because it gives them a chance to see the young dman play and gives them a depth rental for nothing while hopefully giving Chara a proper send off that he deserves

I see that you are a Miller fan. That’s ok. He can stay on the taxi squad then.
Kevan Miller deserves a shot on this roster. Before he was injured, he was a rock solid dman for us who brought some sandpaper to our back end. He was every bit the dman that Johnny Boychuck was for us. I'd argue that he was better before he got injured.

Whether or not he comes back as the player he used to be is TBD, but the guy at least deserves that chance. It would be huge for us if he did. Its basically a free agent LD signing.

I could see that. What I can't see is Chara moving on to another team at this point of his career , especially not given the current state of things. He's not getting top pairing on any competitive team, if he's gonna be a 2 or 3 pairing guy he'll do it in Boston or retire.

My analytical brain is possibly outweighed by loyalty to this core. I am a hard no on starting the rebuild now Bergie has 2 years. You take this run this year and if it's not a disaster you take another shot next year. All the while hoping our young guys become roster staples but prepared to move on if they aren't good enough.
Totally fair assessment especially cause you recognize your loyalty > your analysis. It happens man we are humans rooting for other humans lol

Correction, RD signing who can also play on the left side if needed.

That might be tough seeing Chara 8 times. Chara won't take the Lucic approach to old friends. I think Miro Satan can attest to that.

I assume the Bruins deal is on the low end and the discussions might have lead somewhere else about a sort of changing of the guard type of year--which I actually agree with. I don't really want Chara in the top 4 too much anymore and I'd be lying if I didn't say that I'm ready to see Bergeron share the captaincy.
I think it’s more like you may be scratched

I still think Chara can be a 2nd-3rd pairing defenseman good for sub-20 minutes a night, and in my opinion, the talk about the downfall of his game is exaggerated. Absolutely, he is not the Chara he once was, but he was still effective pre-COVID. He didn't look the best during the playoffs, but that probably has more to do with being 43 and being off the ice for months. His weaknesses were magnified because of it.

In my opinion, the Bruins still need to add a defenseman and Chara would be better than not adding a clear top 4D at all. If the Bruins want to play an overall faster game, then I get it.

I still think Chara can be effective in the right circumstances, as you say. But in regard to the statement above, the layoff between the regular season and playoffs last year is roughly the same amount of time between their last playoff game and their first game of 2021. So if rust is an issue, it may take time to get up to speed again, whatever speed that ends up being for him.

Then again, who knows how he will handle the condensed schedule. Does that get him up to speed faster, or cause problems due to lack of recovery time? I can't see him returning and then agreeing to sit out a bunch of games.

Lots of questions. It's a shame it has to be like this.
