Smith was issued a Warning following an incident flagged by NHL Hockey Operations during NHL Game No. 234 vs. Vancouver on Nov. 12. His second Citation, which triggered the $2,000 fine, was issued for an incident at 9:28 of the first period during NHL Game No. 422 at Tampa Bay on Dec. 10.

And the first fine of the year goes to Smith! :handclap:

EDIT: 2nd fine of the year, I forgot that Pulkkinen already got fined

NHL game No. 422? Has there really already been 422 games this season?

I'm surprised Neal didn't get one to be honest.

I'd say the fine comes from the missed call on him 5 seconds before and then he immediately dives and gets a call. That's not the kind of thing the NHL wants to encourage

Nice one Smitty! Well deserved

Must feel good for a Habs fan to make this thread the other way around this time, seems like they're the only ones getting caught!

Surprise surprise, thread was started by Habs fan.

I guess you could call them experts on the topic at least.

i like the idea of the league going over the game and giving fines after the fact

I think they identify players who do it frequently and then they look at these players more carefully. We've seen it last year with Subban too, didn't he get a fine over a month after the act too? I remember that one because it was way later. It's a good idea since those players do it really often. It's not the first time Smith does it either.

Certainly some blatant embellishment there, no complaints from this sens fan, though I'm surprised that's the first one handed out this year.

For what it's worth, I really am unsure what stamkos is trying to achieve by putting his stick there on the play. Odd decision with nothing to gain, and basically inviting Smith to dive.

Are you blaming Stamkos now?

Pretty shameful.

Maybe a hab fan can enlighten me: this means Smith must have received at least one warning prior to this, right?

I'm not a Habs fan but I did read the OP which I guess you didn't
