Preds:
Forsberg-Johansen-Arvidsson
Fiala-Jarnkrok-Neal
Wilson-Sissons-Smith (If Wilson is injured, ugh Parenteau takes his place)
Watson-Fisher-Salomaki (If Fisher is injured, ugh Fiddler takes his place)
Josi-Ellis
Ekholm-Subban
Irwin-Hunt
Rinne
We literally face the exact same problem as the Flames, too many RHS skilled guys and too many LHS energy guys. We would make perfect forward trade partners lol.
Let's see how we face up against the Hawks:
Top 6:
Offensively: Hawks. Hawks have Panarin and Kane nuff said. Toews is also good offensively, and so is Anisimov. Preds have a little more depth offensively, but the edge definitely favours the Hawks.
Defensively: Honestly I'd say a draw on this one. Defensively, Toews is easily the best in the top 6 and it isn't even close. However Kane is a below average defensive winger, while Schmaltz, Panik, and Panarin are above average at best. Anisimov is good, but not amazing. Whereas all but Fiala is above average at worst in the Preds top 6, with Jarnkrok and Forsberg being the two best defensive players on the team. But none of them are elite or anything like that, and really don't stand out that much defensively.
Bottom 6:
Offensively: Preds. Preds have far more depth offensively in their bottom 6 than the Hawks do, and it really isn't close. Hossa is the Hawks best offensive guy in their bottom 6, and also the best offensive player in both team's bottom 6, but other than him their depth offensively is poor.
Defensively: Hawks. The Hawks two best defensive forwards in Kruger and Hossa are in their bottom 6, while the Preds bottom 6 really doesn't know the definition of defense except for Fisher who used to be elite but has a lost a big step. Hawks definitely fine the defensive aspect here.
Top pairing defense:
Offensively: Preds AINEC. Nothing more needs to be said, Josi and Ellis are deadly in production in the Ozone, even though Keith and Hjalmarsson are better at controlling their entries and exits.
Defensively: Hawks AINEC. Hjalmarsson is the best defensive player in the league and Keith is elite in that category as well, whereas Ellis is near elite and Josi is above average defensively, Hawks easily win this one.
Second pairing defense:
Offensively: Preds AINEC to infinity. Nothing more needs to be said when your 2nd pairing is Ekholm and Subban. Oduya and Seabrook are a joke offensively compared to the Preds 2nd pairing.
Defensively: Preds. This one is much closer, but the edge still goes to the Preds especially since Ekholm is the Preds best defensive player, and is the best defensively out of the 2nd pairing for both teams.
Bottom pairing:
Offensively: Hawks AINEC. Yeah no explanation needed.
Defensively: Hawks. Again no real explanation needed.
Goalies:
Stopping the puck: Hawks. Crawford and Darling are both elite goalies when it comes to stopping the puck and both boost some of the best rebound save percentages in the league the last couple of years. Conversely every Nashville goalies since the beginnning of time (Aka 2010) are usually among the bottom in rebound save percentages.
Non-traditional goalie abilities (Freezing, tracking, controlling, moving, etc. the puck): Preds. Prior to this season, it would have been Preds AINEC, this season it's closer, but Preds still have the major advantage, as Rinne is one of the league's elites in puck freezing, and puck movement. Saros is learning from his footsteps as well. Crawford and Darling prior to this season would have been a complete reversal of the Preds goalie duo abilities. It's closer now though, but still massively in the Preds favour.
