This is pure speculation but I feel like Ruff is onboard with moving upstairs after this season. It would be a really passive aggressive move to hire a guy who is due a HC job and give him the title of Associate Coach with the intention of firing the current coach after this season. That doesn't really seem to be Fitz' leadership style. To me this screams of a plan that has been agreed upon by everyone beforehand including Lindy.
Pretty sure he's on record saying he wants to continue to coach. He could very well be a Jack Adams finalist this year and he's never won a Cup (as a player or coach). I would be stunned if he voluntarily hung them up after this year.

I don't think Ruff is going to willingly walk away after this season

But I could see them going into next year with that being the plan, even if it's not made public or known outside the organization.

I still think they could give him the Jack Adams for the lifetime achievement award aspect, like they did with Sutter last year. I don't think he's ever won the award before.

It probably still could go to Montgomery though, but Ruff would be 2nd in that case.

Technically he wouldn't be 'fired', he's on a lame-duck deal so he has no say about it if Fitz wants to have Brunette be the coach after the season. I do wonder if we don't retain him and he still wants to coach, does he get another job now. I figured (and we all did) that this would be his last head job in the NHL but this year may well have bought him another kick at the can if we decide to send him on his merry way.

i think @njdevils1982 was joking, since our Jersey Jersey is basically the retro hawks one

blackhawks wore that thing in 1927-28, while the newark bulldogs straight up ripped it a year later

yes, what you're saying.

ok.... let's settle this for those who haven't seen this: (it might as well be the same thing aside from bottom striping) ....to me, it's a hawks jersey

others are free to disagree

Sure. Now that you showed me what you are referring to, I can see how similar they are.

But you had stated "it looks like a Hawk Jersey" earlier as if you expected me to already know.

Ruff can't be back next year. He's on the older side and there's a younger obvious successor standing next to him behind the bench already. Fitz needs to give Lindy an upstairs office gig and make the obvious move here.
I've been told my comments sometimes come across as snarky so I'll tread lightly.

When a team goes from league doormat to one of the top teams in the league they don't usually get fired.

Unless he decides he no longer wants to coach, there's no chance of Lindy not coaching next year.

Well since his contract is expiring, if the previous agreement was for him to let Brunette take over, but he still wants to coach now...he can choose to go to another team. I'm sure some team is willing to take his services given the success of this season. But again, this only makes sense if my speculation is correct that they had a previous understanding that he wouldn't get extended in favor of letting Brunette take over after this year. If they haven't had that discussion, and he tells Fitz he wants to say, I can see how it might be difficult to say no.

Yeah, this cannot be good for the younger generation.

If the ads weren't so frequent and in-your-face I might actually give it a try - but I just refuse to give any of these companies any my money as the ads and constant odds updates have made watching games less enjoyable.

Kevin Weekes
Connor McDavid
Wayne Gretzky
Auston Matthews

All have no f***ing problem getting paid to entice those desperate for money to gamble and those with a gambling addiction to gamble even more. Pathetic.

I’m just worried that someone poaches Brunette for a HC gig. I think a lot of credit goes to him and all our assistants for how good of a team we are this year. I think that dumping the old assistants and hiring the new ones is not recognized as much as it should be for how well it has worked out. Just one more excellent move by Fitz.
